Elons Boring Company Is Planning to Build a 10-Mile Tunnel in Dubai for Some Reason

Jackass oligarch Elon Musk has a lot going on. As of this very moment, hes leading an agenda to ruin the federal government (DOGE), hes building rocket ships and fancy cars, hes shit-posting his way through every day at a rate that seems basically impossible and, apparently, hes planning to construct a 10-mile subterranean tunnel in Dubai. Well, lets clarify some of the above. Musk is definitely ruining the federal governmenthe seems to be working overtime on that initiative (with the help of a bunch of pimple-faced sycophants). He is definitely an oligarch, and he is definitely a jackass. He definitely tweets at what seems to be an impossible pace. But Musk, himself, isnt building anything. The workers at Tesla are building his cars, and the workers at SpaceX are building his rocket ships. According to a recent report from Bloomberg, undocumented immigrants built his Gigafactory in Texas. And his tunnel construction and infrastructure company, The Boring Company, is the one that is planning to construct a tunnel in Dubai. On Thursday, the company announced its underground project via a press release on its website. Dubai, under the visionary leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has consistently aimed to be at the forefront of global urban development, the press release reads. The initial Dubai Loop pilot will have 11 stations and 17 kilometers of tunnel and will transport over 20,000 passengers per hour, with the goal of ultimately expanding into Dubai Loop, a next generation underground transportation system throughout the Emirate of Dubai. If youve never heard of The Loop, well, lucky you. Basically, Borings Loop is a subterranean tunnel network, through which cars (specifically Teslas) can be driven at extremely slow speeds. Musk first unveiled The Loop in Las Vegas in 2021, at which point it was just one tunnel, and seemed like a laughably pointless project. More recent reporting from ProPublica has shown that Musks company is now constructing a broader Loop network beneath Vegas, with a planned tunnel system designed to stretch some 68 miles. However, as ProPublica has noted, because the project is privately funded, it has not had to go through the vetting typical of public transit systems, including lengthy governmental studies, which gives a distinctly sketchy hue to the entire thing. Borings website explains the supposed benefit of Loop this way: Loop is an express public transportation system that resembles an underground highway more than a subway system. If a subway line had 100 stops, a train would typically stop at each station, so the trip between Stop 1 and Stop 100 would be long. In contrast, Loop passengers travel directly to their destination, anywhere between Stop 1 to Stop 100, without stopping at the intermediate stations. God only knows why Musk ever thought this was a good idea but he has the money and the power to do it so here we all are. The project in Dubai also sounds notably riskier than the U.S. project, as it notes that Teslas driving through the future tunnel system could travel at speeds of up to 100 mph. It also makes big claims about its load capacity, claiming that the future system aims to handle over 100,000 passengers per hour. All I can say is: Good luck, Dubai! Maybe youll have more luck with this whole thing than we have.
