We're still waiting for the Switch 2's price, release date, and launch games from Nintendo, but it seems the console is poised to fix two issues with the originalTech12:03, 20 Feb 2025Updated 12:04, 20 Feb 2025This is the Switch 2, but there's still plenty we don't know about it yetThe full Switch 2 reveal will happen via a Nintendo Direct on April 2, where we expect the company to confirm the system's price and when we can play it.And, while the launch game lineup could be what sways people from their PS5 or Xbox consoles (as well as a price that keeps cropping up), some developers have been discussing what Switch 2 offers over its predecessor. In a new interview with AUTOMATON, developers working on the Switch have explained why it's the CPU that will make the biggest difference.According to the interviews, the Switch 2's CPU will have more headroom. One of the biggest issues with the first console was that it was running at maximum capacity, leaving little room for loading anything in the background. That led to slow loading times, and big performance drops that were particularly notable in third-party ports of games that were found on other systems.Tying into this, the Switch 1 had 4GB of RAM, but it seems likely that the new console will reach higher than that, improving performance. And again, developers interviewed seemingly expect it to be easier to port titles to the new Nintendo system, which could help that all-important first year of software look appealing for a wider audience. After all, Take-Two and EA have already thrown their weight behind the Switch 2, meaning we could be inching closer to full ports of the likes of NBA 2K and EA FC that are closer to their PlayStation and Xbox counterparts. We've also heard that the new magnetic Joy-Con will be less susceptible to drift, an issue which still causes players problems today.Joy-Con will be magnetic nowOne of the Switch's biggest issues since launch has been that its controllers can suffer the phenomenon, where the sticks don't return to centre and games think the sticks are being pushed in a certain direction.Article continues belowWe're expecting magnetic Hall Effect sticks to negate the effects, marking a huge boon for Switch 2 players over the original. For more on Switch 2, check out reports that both Marvel and Rockstar Games titles could appear on the console once it launches. For the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletters.
