WWW.DAILYSTAR.CO.UKNintendo Switch 2 price complaints go quiet as Sony announce PS5 price increaseThe upshot of Sony making its PS5 console more expensive is that the Switch 2 actually becomes a more affordable console by comparison – here's why you might want to take another lookTech22:00, 14 Apr 2025You will need to act fast to get a Switch 2(Image: Nintendo)Nintendo’s April 2 Switch 2 Direct gave us a whole host of information about Nintendo's console, but one thing that's kept coming up since is the pricing.Nintendo's new console is pricey to begin with, and Trump’s tariffs aren't likely to help things. Add in the £75 Mario Kart World will cost at launch, and the potential of some expensive Switch 2 Editions of games, and you could end up forking out plenty.Article continues belowAfter cries of "drop the price" have reverberated around Nintendo's social channels and YouTube comments in the weeks since, Sony seemingly chose not to read the room, announcing a price hike on PS5's base, digital-only console in the early hours of this morning. And now, if you're looking for a new console, the Switch 2 might look more appealing than it did 24 hours ago.Start your engines - Switch 2 isn't that far away(Image: Nintendo)In case you missed it, Sony increased the price of the PS5 Digital Edition for the second time since the start of the console generation in 2020, citing a "challenging economic environment" as its reason for doing so.The increase of £40 puts the base PS5 at £430 (and that's not even looking to the pricier Pro model), while the Nintendo Switch 2 will launch at £395.The PS5's disc drive is dropping in price, too, but that's another £70 to be able to play physical media – money you could spend on a couple of backward compatible Switch games or even Mario Kart World (almost)It's not an "apples to apples" comparison, of course. The Switch 2 is a hybrid system that packs a whole host of family-friendly titles, while the PS5 is still arguably the best console to buy for the sheer range of first and third-party titles.Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders are now open at most UK online stores(Image: AFP via Getty Images)Still, there's an argument that a customer experiences "sticker shock" when the 2020 console costs more than the one launching in 2025, and that this price discrepancy could play into Nintendo's hands. It could even help Microsoft push on, especially with the value found in its Game Pass service which offers a whole host of games (including first-party exclusives) for a monthly fee.For more on the Nintendo Switch 2, be sure to check out our preview of the system when we went hands-on. Here's what we said:Article continues below"The Switch 2 is a more impressive upgrade than I (and perhaps others) had given credit for, and while I’m sure Nintendo has much more to show us in the months to come, I feel like the launch window line-up is strong enough to warrant a purchase already".For the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletters.0 Commentaires 0 Parts 22 VueConnectez-vous pour aimer, partager et commenter!

WWW.DAILYSTAR.CO.UKBungie's Marathon reboot launches soon, here's how you can play early via the closed AlphaBungie finally revealed gameplay of its new sci-fi extraction shooter Marathon, and we're desperate to play – here's how you can try it early via the game's Alpha testTech10:25, 14 Apr 2025Updated 10:25, 14 Apr 2025Ready to step into a sci-fi PvP shooter?Halo and Destiny have both been big hits for Bungie, but the company is going into its back catalog for its next title. Marathon, which continues a franchise the studio debuted in the nineties, will mark its first non-Destiny release since 2014.Challenging fans to complete a series of puzzles to reveal the gameplay deep-dive over the weekend, Bungie confirmed the leaks that suggested the game would be out sooner than anticipated, giving Marathon a September 23, 2025 release date – the same day as Borderlands 4.Article continues belowWondering if it's for you? While some early impressions from press and content creators have suggested the extraction shooter genre could be a tough nut to crack even for Bungie, you can play early. In fact, the game's Alpha is planned to start this month. Here's all we know so far.Bungie has confirmed that Marathon's initial alpha text will begin in late April, so expect news very soon indeed. The studio is planning more playtesting opportunities (and we'd be very surprised not to see a beta closer to launch, perhaps tied into preorders) but for now you need to sign up to the Marathon Discord Server to be in with a chance. You won't be guaranteed a slot, but this is the best opportunity you'll have of testing the game.Marathon has a unique sci-fi style that sets it apart"Scavenge the lost colony of Tau Ceti IV in Bungie’s team-based FPS extraction shooter," the game's Steam page explains."Choose your Runner and work together in crews of three as you battle rival teams and hostile security forces for weapons and upgrades. Survive and your loot is yours to keep for future runs on Tau Ceti—or if you’re brave enough, a journey to the derelict Marathon ship that hangs above."The alpha will include four different Runners, as well as a couple of maps, while Bungie is promising the game will feature the studio's "best-in-class first-person gunplay".The game was revealed at the PlayStation Showcase in May 2023 and confirmed to offer a PvP extraction shooter. The new version of Marathon will offer "evolving, persistent zones" and is set in the same universe as the originals from the nineties.Behind the scenes, Bungie dismissed project lead Chris Barrett following alleged "disturbing communications" with female colleagues, leading to VALORANT Game Director Joe Ziegler taking over the role.Article continues belowFor the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletters.0 Commentaires 0 Parts 32 Vue

WWW.DAILYSTAR.CO.UKHit Blizzard video game tipped for 'Netflix treatment' TV show as fans share hopesOne industry insider has suggested that one Blizzard franchise is getting a Netflix adaptation, despite talks between both parties seemingly falling through a few years agoTech14:27, 14 Apr 2025Updated 14:28, 14 Apr 2025Freya is the newest addition to the Overwatch rosterIt's been a busy few weeks for Blizzard. The company confirmed that Blizzcon will return in 2026, a huge shakeup for Overwatch 2, and that next year will see a new Diablo 4 expansion. That was followed by a new roadmap for that game, as well as confirmation of a ten-year plan for the franchise, plus a recent Hearthstone expansion and World of Warcraft patch.Article continues belowIn all honesty, it feels as though Blizzard has been firing on all cylinders in recent months, but now one report suggests it has ambitions beyond gaming.Speaking on the Xbox Two podcast, Windows Central's Jez Corden has suggested Blizzard is perhaps working with Netflix to bring one of its iconic series to your TV screen.Just after the hour mark on the show above, Corden says "I'm not going to say what game it is, but there's a Blizzard franchise that's getting some kind of Netflix treatment".He also suggests the show could be revealed at Blizzcon 2026, but doesn't give any further information. It'd be fair to say Blizzard has a huge pool of tales to tell, whether the Netflix project is live action or animated. The studio's World of Warcraft is an MMO spanning decades, while the Warcraft franchise itself is packed with deep lore and memorable characters. It's been a hot minute since we've had a Starcraft game, but it remains close to fans' hearts, while Diablo's gory, dark world would lend itself nicely to an animated adventure.Season 15 is big, but it'll lead into even more impressive changes for Overwatch 2For our money, though, it feels like Overwatch is the prime candidate here. Blizzard's Hero shooter helped establish a genre, and has a huge cast of characters. It's also no stranger to stunning cinematics – we still get goosebumps from the Zero Hour trailer.Netflix is also no stranger to gaming adaptations. Aside from the (excellent) Arcane (based on League of Legends), Cyberpunk Edgerunners was fantastic, while Castlevania was also well received. The Witcher was perhaps a little more mixed, while Resident Evil disappointed, but the company has leaned into the 'geek culture' crossover with regular Geeked Week events.Last year's one confirmed a Splinter Cell animated show, the recently released Devil May Cry anime, and much more.Article continues belowFor the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletters.0 Commentaires 0 Parts 38 Vue

WWW.DAILYSTAR.CO.UKTaylor Swift slays with unexpected appearance in hit game Monster Hunter WildsOne Monster Hunter Wilds fan opted to 'Shake It Off', creating an impressively detailed Taylor Swift character in-game for their hunting adventures – check it outTech11:46, 14 Apr 2025Updated 11:48, 14 Apr 2025Monster Hunter Wilds is one of the year's biggest games, and it's only getting bigger having only just received the first part of an ambitious post-launch roadmap with its Title Update 1.The game hit huge player numbers on launch day, despite some performance issues on PC, and fans have been flocking to create their own hunters in-game.Article continues belowWe've seen some wild and whacky creations, but one fan has gone above and beyond to give the game's monster roster some 'Bad Blood', creating an impressively tuned Taylor Swift model with which to explore the Forbidden Lands.Check it out below.Posting on the Taylor Swift subreddit, one user said: "My husband is playing as Taylor in the newest Monster Hunter game. I think the character turned out perfect!"The huts/bases are also themed after different eras and the stickers are based on different song lyrics. I think she turned out super cute!"I only helped with curly hair Rep Taylor and the Fortnight look, the rest was all him!"Monster Hunter's inclusion of Palicos, adorable, anthropomorphized cats that accompany your Hunter on quests, means that even the main character's companion is themed after Taylor's cat, Olivia Benson.Monster Hunter Wilds has been a huge success for publisher Capcom(Image: Capcom)Fans loved it, commenting "he cooked" and "just amazing", while one shared a digital recreation from Baldur's Gate 3 that's also styled after the iconic singer. One said "I have no idea what that is but it's ridiculous and I love it and thanks to your husband for making it and thank you for sharing," suggesting that's at least one person commenting that hasn't picked up Monster Hunter Wilds. The download code for downloading Taylor to your game is FD9MB8KL4MS9 if you want to add her to your own game, and we've already seen impressive creations of TV stars, Hollywood actors, and much more as the community flexes its creative muscles.Article continues belowIn fact, I almost feel boring for just having a relatively generic Hunter in the game now.As for Taylor's preferred weapon choice, we're betting it's something that allows for quick feet and nimble dodging. After all, she is... ahem... Swift. For the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletters.0 Commentaires 0 Parts 39 Vue

WWW.DAILYSTAR.CO.UKFormer Rockstar visionary makes GTA 6 'genius' claim as he prepares rival gameFormer Rockstar Games dev Leslie Benzies has said he's excited for GTA 6, despite leaving in 2016 to found his own studio – Benzies' first game since the split will launch this yearTech11:01, 14 Apr 2025MindsEye looks impressive already(Image: Build a Rocket Boy)Grand Theft Auto 6 is still expected to launch in 2025, and while developer Rockstar Games is being pretty quiet on the project, it appears that's all part of the marketing cycle.Still, one game definitely launching in 2025 is MindsEye, which is notable for being the first title from Build A Rocket Boy, the studio founded by former Rockstar Games visionary Leslie Benzies.Article continues belowBenzies is credited as the lead developer on GTA 5, GTA Online, and Red Dead Redemption, and his new near-future action game looks similarly impressive from early footage and screenshots. Now, Benzies has commented on going up against his former employers.MindsEye is the studio's debut title(Image: Build a Rocket Boy)Speaking to GamingBible, Benzies was very complimentary about Rockstar's next title – the studio's first in the GTA series without him on board.Asked if he's looking forward to GTA 6, Benzies replied "Absolutely"."[There's a] great amount of geniuses there always creating something new, unique, and of a scale that very few others can actually pull off".Elsewhere in the interview, Benzies promises the next trailer could be of huge interest to budding developers.“One of the things we're most excited about is the Arcadia trailer. Within MindsEye and the PC, there's a tool that's going to let players build AAA-quality games, so that'll be our next trailer for us; that'll be out in the next few weeks.”Players can explore a sci-fi world in just a few short months(Image: Build a Rocket Boy)Arcadia is planned as a game development tool, and preorder customers can gain access when purchasing MindsEye. It could help set the project apart from GTA 6, but Benzies acknowledges that those comparisons will remain.“There's always comparisons. The first question that gets asked is always about the old game, but I think that’s human nature,” Benzies explained.“You know, it’s what happened to Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters, [people] were more interested in Nirvana. It’ll take a bit of time for us to find our own identity.”As for MindsEye, the game got a first look at a PlayStation event earlier this year, followed by a release date in June that's fast approaching."Fight to uncover Jacob’s truth in a world where AI, high-tech experimentation and unchecked military power shape every encounter. What starts as a personal quest unveils something so large it threatens the spark in everything alive, as the danger of the sentient robots rises propelled by human greed."For more on GTA 6, check out why Rockstar Games might follow a Nintendo-set precedent for its pricing, and how other publishers are scrambling to clear the game's inevitable 'blast zone'.Article continues belowFor the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletters.0 Commentaires 0 Parts 47 Vue

WWW.DAILYSTAR.CO.UKCopa City boss talks moving from career in football to building his dream gameDominik Ebebenge is a former official at Legia Warsaw, but now finds himself working on a truly unique football video game with Copa City – he sat down with Daily Star to talk about his career transitionTech09:00, 12 Apr 2025Copa City is doing something uniqueFootball truly is the world’s game, played or followed by most of us on this Earth. It’s big business, too, particularly in video games. While EA FC 25 dominates the on-pitch action and eFootball looks to overthrow it, Football Manager has taken the management side of things to new heights — although the cancellation of this year’s game certainly wasn’t ideal.Article continues belowStill, as more and more upstarts look to break into your virtual first eleven, there’s one game going about its business a little differently.Copa City, pegged for a 2025 release, is the debut title from Triple Espresso, and is focused on celebrating the effect football can have on the cities that host it.Daily Star sat down with Dominik Ebebenge, a former club official at Legia Warsaw and now co-founder of Triple Espresso, to talk about the vision of Copa City — and why there’s never been a better time to be the underdog.Players can work on fan zones, policing, and even catering“I'm a dreamer. I’ve always been,” Ebebenge starts when describing his unique career path. That initial dream was to work at Legia Warsaw, his boyhood club. He did so from the age of 16, working his way from a volunteer position to becoming the club’s head of sports.Noting a time in his life when he was “obsessed” with Football Manager, Ebebenge says his work at the club gave him an “extreme amount of exposure to a certain network” of contacts.Studying at Bath University, he split his time between studies, lectures, and travelling to European games and organising logistics of the football club.Triple Espresso’s co-founders were the owners of Legia Warsaw at the time and, after selling the club, the three wanted to stay linked with football. After initially leaning into esports, the team began a chapter “when we started making those key connections in terms of building our early team to start conceptualising the idea of introducing a new perspective into the existing football games landscape”.Ebebenge describes Copa City as a game about “everything that happens before that first whistle”.Copa City is intended to be complimentary to existing video gamesWhile the initial reveal of Copa City perhaps made it look akin to a Football Manager rival, Ebebenge explains it’s much closer to a management sim.“You are involved in everything from selling tickets to preparing catering zones,” he explains, pointing to the game being a delicate balancing act between the “needs and the wants of two different sides”.Those two sides are meeting in a one-off kind of event, where matches are held at a neutral location and you’ll need to manage elements that would otherwise be held behind the scenes.Pointing to the success of recent sports documentary series on streaming services, Ebebenge says the focus is on “where the camera follows before the game”.I asked if his prior career as a football club executive helped clubs buy into what the game is offering. After all, the studio has already secured the likes of Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal and Flamengo.“One hundred percent,” he says. “And I guess that answers or is partly an answer to the question that we hear all the time: Why hasn't anyone done it before?“We’ve heard that in some big places, to be honest. It’s not rocket science, but it takes some combination of some unique background stories and context to create that kind of an environment.”The team has already secured licenses for Bayern Munich and ArsenalThat focus on a special one-off event means you won’t be managing tactics, hiring staff, or negotiating transfers.Ebebenge says the focus remains on offering a complimentary experience that doesn’t encroach too much on other titles, although does acknowledge the current state of football games makes it a great time to kick off (see what we did there?) something new.I asked about the delay and subsequent cancellation of Football Manager 25, and he confessed that the team sees it as a “great opportunity”.“We've seen a certain momentum growing when it comes to the streaming platforms and clearly there's a common denominator in terms of that [behind the scenes] theme,” he said.“We see the industry being at a certain crossroads with what happened between FIFA and EA, and then obviously the delay of Football Manager.”So what about the time following launch? Is there scope for an annual franchise with Copa City? Ebebenge’s answer surprised us.“Right now we’re focused on a certain exciting selection of clubs, but we definitely see other avenues and other possibilities out there,” he added.“No one's ever said that football is the only theme that we have to show, and we see, you know, wider possibilities in that perspective that we are creating. There's so much more to be shown in football as it is, so we are already full of ideas for the future.Article continues below“Hopefully we’ll have a launch that we dream of and everything will go according to play, and we’re going to be here to stay for a good while.”For the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletters.0 Commentaires 0 Parts 45 Vue

WWW.DAILYSTAR.CO.UK'I've played the new Nintendo Switch 2 – here's why you should pre-order it'We’ve been hands-on with the Nintendo Switch 2 and played some of its biggest games – here’s all we learned about the new console so far, including one game we didn't expect to loveTech14:48, 11 Apr 2025Start your engines - Switch 2 isn't that far away(Image: Nintendo)It’s perhaps a little strange that Nintendo’s April 2 Switch 2 Direct left us with a fair number of questions as well as answers, and that Nintendo has been doing its best to clarify messaging since. One of the biggest conversations around the console has been the price. Pre-orders are postponed in the US (and Canada), but even if you’re not hampered by Trump’s tariffs, it’s already an expensive purchase.Article continues belowAdd in a pricey launch game, lack of a pack-in title, and some pretty expensive accessories and services, and the Switch 2 might not be for everyone. In fact, having scooped up a pre-order through sheer dumb luck, I went into my hands-on session with the system expecting to find a reason to cancel it.What I found, however, is a true generational leap from the first Switch that maintains Nintendo’s whimsy while offering a profound technical improvement.Mario Kart World is Nintendo's big Switch 2 launch title(Image: Nintendo)My first introduction to the Nintendo Switch 2 was its biggest, most prestigious launch title – Mario Kart World. While we weren’t able to explore the open world or dig for any secrets just yet, I was able to play both docked and in handheld mode. Both support up to 120 FPS, and even if that means nothing to you, if you’ve played any amount of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe then the visual step up in both resolution and smoothness is immediately noticeable. As I hit those buttery smooth powerslides around a couple of the game’s new tracks, I managed to manoeuvre myself so close to an encroaching Elk on the track (don’t ask) that I almost brushed its hooves with Mario’s bumper. It’s a small thing, but it’s not something I’d have necessarily felt confident pulling off in the Switch 1’s best-selling game.In handheld mode, I wanted to see how much the lack of OLED would affect my experience. If you’ve spent time with the Switch 1’s OLED screen, you’ll know what a difference it can make to just about anything, so I was a little sceptical the same could be achieved with a reversion to LCD.Thankfully, the display is crisp and bright, and HDR makes a big difference to allowing additional nuance. I wasn’t able to compare it to my Steam Deck OLED’s display, but it’s miles better than the Switch 1’s launch panel.Where I think Nintendo has Valve beat is just how the Switch 2 feels in the hands. It’s not necessarily the size (although it certainly is comfortable), but it’s the thickness – or lack thereof. It’s still the same thickness as the Switch 1, meaning it felt comfortable to hold. The JoyCon's can be used as mice on the Switch 2(Image: Amazon)Switching away from Mario Kart, I was able to play a few more Switch 2 titles that make use of alternative controller options. I’ll cover Donkey Kong Bananza shortly because it warrants its own spot, but another game that stood out was Metroid Prime 4.With the first Switch being my first Nintendo console outside of a Gameboy Colour, my only experience of Metroid Prime was the recent remaster of the first game – a title I really enjoyed. That had me itching to see how things have evolved in the years since, and I’m pleased to say Metroid Prime 4 looks absolutely stonking on Switch 2, even at 1080p performance mode at 120 FPS.What I wasn’t expecting, though, was to be playing it with the Joy-Con controllers in a mouse-like configuration. While I could see the appeal of playing Civilization 7 (which worked great, by the way), Metroid Prime 4’s reliance on a pretty generous auto-lock meant I didn’t think I’d enjoy the shift – but I was wrong. We're so ready to step into Samus' boots againI was only given a fifteen-minute demo, which saw me whisked through an early game area gunning down space pirates, before using the Morph Ball to get through some vents. The new abilities shown in last week’s trailer were absent, but as I tackled an enormous boss fight, I was impressed by how intuitive the controls had become in just a quarter of an hour.I was jumping over projectiles, rolling under wave attacks and gunning down weak points as if I’d been playing the game this way for hours. And while the lock-on remains a core ingredient, there’s just a smidge of extra reward for those who want to nail those headshots.Other titles that use the mouse felt similarly easy to use, but I still feel as though Switch 2 Welcome Tour would be best suited as a pack-in. It’s a great way to get a feel for so much of the system’s nuances, but just feels like a bizarre thing to fork out an extra tenner at launch for.Two things that I wager will be worth picking up, however, are the Switch 2 Editions of Link’s latest adventures: Breath of the Wild, and Tears of the Kingdom.Having experienced both, the strongest praise I can give is that each feels like it could have been launched this year. These are two of the greatest games of all time, running better than you’d have ever believed they could at launch. There’s still a slight bit of pop-in at times, but otherwise, these are stunning versions of two games I never finished because I was hoping my patience would be rewarded by Switch 2 – and it has.I also got to check out Cyberpunk 2077 and, while I acknowledge that I’m lucky enough to have a big, powerful PC so I’ve been somewhat spoiled by developer CD Projekt’s sci-fi RPG, I am very impressed to see it running on Switch 2.Whether the Switch 2 will keep pace with newer ports in the years to come remains to be seen (Cyberpunk 2077 launched in 2020, after all), but the fact it’s here at all is impressive.Switch 2 is just a couple of months away(Image: AFP via Getty Images)I loved Super Mario Odyssey on the first Nintendo Switch, and honestly felt like a sequel was a shoo-in for the new console’s launch line-up.Instead, I was initially a little disappointed when we got Donkey Kong: Bonanza instead. It’s another 3D platformer, sure, but I worried that the focus on destruction would ruin some of the hand-crafted nature of Odyssey’s lineage. After playing for 20 minutes, though, I’m impressed. That’s not to say it’ll reach the high bar that is Odyssey, but smashing through items and solving puzzles with the big ape was great fun.Perhaps most impressively, it showed just how comfortable the Switch 2 is with just about everything exploding on the screen at once. I smashed through entire mountains to reach the other side, and the frame rate didn’t drop. And, despite my reservations that digging underground was a recipe for getting lost or stuck, DK had me covered with a delightful 3D map and the option to reset terrain if I got too far off the beaten track.Add to that the opportunity to hurl chunks of wall, floor, and anything else at enemies, and I feel I could’ve happily smashed through even more for a few hours.Did I cancel my pre-order?I was all set to have that sweet, sweet moolah back in my account by the weekend, but I simply couldn’t do it.The Switch 2 is a more impressive upgrade than I (and perhaps others) had given credit for, and while I’m sure Nintendo has much more to show us in the months to come, I feel like the launch window line-up is strong enough to warrant a purchase already.Article continues belowWe’ll have a full review up on Daily Star when my pre-order arrives in a couple of months, but for now, I really wish I could’ve taken one home. For the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletters.0 Commentaires 0 Parts 59 Vue

WWW.DAILYSTAR.CO.UKGTA 6 release window narrows as Mafia: The Old Country date leaksThe dominos are lined up for GTA 6 as Take-Two's other big crime adventure gets an August release date – leading fans to think Rockstar's game is a shoo-in for OctoberTech14:58, 11 Apr 2025Updated 14:58, 11 Apr 2025Could Mafia's date indicate the stars are aligning for GTA 6?(Image: Take-Two)Grand Theft Auto 6 is still coming this year, and despite developer Rockstar Games going silent about the biggest game of 2025, it seems that's all part of the plan according to publisher Take-Two's CEO.With the company expected to launch several high-profile games this year, it's made no secret of the fact it's wanted to stagger releases to avoid cannibalizing its own success.Article continues belowAfter an earnings call confirmed GTA 6 should arrive in 2025, Take-Two put a release date of September 23 on Borderlands 4 back in February. Now that we're in April, the company has revealed another big release date, this time for Mafia: The Old Country, which seemingly opens the way for an October release date for GTA 6.Expect a more grounded crime story(Image: Take-Two)Mafia: The Old Country is another hotly-anticipated Take-Two game and marks the first entry since 2016's Mafia III.Early today, a blog post which was seemingly published a little too soon (and has since been deleted), said that the title will launch on August 8."Mafia: The Old Country is available August 8, 2025. Pre-order now for PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, and stay tuned to the official Mafia website for more information," it read.Previously, Take-Two had said Mafia: The Old Country would debut in 2025, so this is the first confirmation of the release date – a month and a half ahead of Borderlands 4.In fact, the game's Steam Page still points to 2025, without mentioning a date.Mafia: The Old Country looks fantastic(Image: Take-Two)If Take-Two really wants to give each of its titles breathing room, then there's a good chance GTA 6 will be targeting an October or November release date. While some are fearful of a delay, Rockstar Games has a history of ramping up marketing when it's good and ready. WWW.DAILYSTAR.CO.UKHow Elder Scrolls Online is shaking up a ten-year-old game in 2025Not many games last a decade, but Zenimax Online Studios is nowhere near done yet — here's what the company is promising for Elder Scrolls Online next, and when you can play itTech20:30, 10 Apr 2025ESO is still growing, even after a decade(Image: Bethesda Softworks/ZeniMax Media )The start of the PS4 and Xbox One generation saw a gold rush of games-as-a-service and console MMOs, but few stand as tall a decade later as The Elder Scrolls Online. The game has seen dozens of huge updates, adding whole landmasses, locations from other Elder Scrolls titles, and more loot than you can shake a Daedric Prince at.Article continues belowWe've hunted vampires, slain dragons, battled through dungeons and much, much more, and Zenimax Online Studios isn't done yet. Today, the studio revealed the latest updates coming to Elder Scrolls Online and no, there's no Oblivion remaster in sight.Solstice is the new location this year(Image: Bethesda Softworks/ZeniMax Media )Throughout much of ESO's lifespan, the team at Zenimax Online Studios has introduced regular expansions, but the team is shifting things a little.2025 will kick off the Seasons of the Worm Cult, which takes place on new location the island of Solstice. Rather than offering a sort of fresh start, however, it's a direct sequel to the base game's story from all those years ago.Solstice is divided by the mysterious Writhing Wall, which will lend itself to the game's first-ever server-wide event later this year as players work to unlock the second half of the Seasons of the Worm Cult story by breaking through to the other side.More dungeons are coming(Image: Bethesda Softworks/ZeniMax Media )It's an ambitious plan, but the studio is quick to confirm you don't have to complete the base game's story to jump in with this one. Both parts of the Seasons of the Worm Cult storyline are included in the 2025 content pass, with the first half available in June. The 2025 Content Pass and 2025 Premium Edition also includes a pair of Dungeon Packs. Fallen Banners is available now, while Feast of Shadows is slated for Fall of this year. Both include two PvE four-player dungeons.Expect big bosses to tackle(Image: Bethesda Softworks/ZeniMax Media )If you're a lapsed player, there's plenty arriving for free to tease you back into Elder Scrolls Online.Alongside the new paid content in June, Update 46 will introduce major changes for all players for free. Hero's Return is a new system that's aiming to make the process of getting back into ESO more streamlined, easing players back into systems they haven't touched in a while, or tutorialising new ones that have been added since. The devs have teased returning characters(Image: Bethesda Softworks/ZeniMax Media )It's the kind of thing we wish more long-running games would do, in truth, but that's not all.A new Subclassing system will let players replace up to two of their character's Skill Lines with options from other classes, letting them create a hybrid class that's all their own. WWW.DAILYSTAR.CO.UKHow EA F1 25's My Team 2.0 brings the best of 'Drive To Survive' to the video gameEA F1 25 is bringing the drama to its long-running My Team Mode, swapping out an owner/driver for a shift in perspective, new ways to introduce Icon drivers and much moreTech16:00, 10 Apr 2025Updated 17:19, 10 Apr 2025Expect this year's game to bring the dramaThe Formula 1 season is in full flow again, and while Lewis Hamilton will grace the Iconic Edition cover of EA's F1 25, he'll be sharing the track with Brad Pitt (yes, really). This year's title is making some big changes, but for today, we're talking My Team — one of the game's most popular modes.Article continues belowIn a behind-closed-doors presentation, Codemasters acknowledged that the mode has been relatively untouched in recent years since its 2020 debut, but the studio is working on a sizeable revamp that it dubs "My Team 2.0".From drastic shifts in the mode's perspective to more granular Icon customisation, here's everything we've learned about the F1 25 My Team mode so far.One of the biggest shifts in My Team is that players will no longer be split between being a team owner and a driver on the grid. That might disappoint some, but EA told us it helps lead to more difficult decisions that heighten drama. After all, were you ever really going to give your co-driver an engine upgrade in last year's game so they could blow past you on turn 1? It's unlikely, but now you'll be spending more of your time in the new Team HQ.Team HQ will grow as your team doesThis dynamic space changes as your career progresses, with three main areas represented by heads of department that are fully animated. As your engineering, corporate, and personnel teams evolve, your Team HQ will change. Larger workforces mean completing tasks more quickly, but also increases the running cost, potentially forcing you to adjust budgets. This all works its way into a new Owner perks system, letting you focus on creating an owner that specialises in those three departments, while team rivalries should keep things interesting on the track, too.The game launches in just a couple of months(Image: EA)Naturally, you won't be able to sign up Verstappen to drive one of your cars right from the jump — particularly if you want to try building an eleventh team on the grid from the F1 movie or Konnersport from Braking Point. You'll need to build prestige for your brand, impressing sponsors to earn loyalty bonuses and getting fans onside. Williams was used as an example — solid start to the real-life season notwithstanding, the team isn't expected to compete for honours, but does have a lot of history in the F1 world.Research and development are also now split, and again feeds into the 'Drive to Survive' level of drama F1 25 is looking to emulate. One example given was costly development of a new engine part, which you can only build one of. Do you deploy it on your fastest car for the next Grand Prix and risk upsetting the other driver? Or do you hold the parts back until both can be fitted? Even if you build one, there's a chance the new part could fail on the test lab, so you're never quite able to get comfortable. Finally, Driver Icons are getting a revamp to make managing them more granular. At present in F1 24, players can recruit the likes of Michael Schumacher to their team, leaving the AI in the dust. With F1 25, the AI will be able to hire Icons, but players can also decide which ones can be included. Don't want legendary drivers and prefer the idea of keeping things realistic with rookies? You can do that, but you can also open things up to include esports drivers and more. It's all about building your own F1 25 sandbox, and it sounds like a fantastic way to add more fan service to the mode in a way that feels akin to starting an EA FC 25 season as a Career Mode Icon. We'll have much more on F1 25 in the coming days, but for now it feels like the Codemasters team is really trying to give players the My Team revamp they've wanted for a few seasons.Article continues belowFor the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletters.0 Commentaires 0 Parts 70 Vue

WWW.DAILYSTAR.CO.UKNintendo Switch 2 won't launch in China and it's not because of Trump's tariffsNintendo Switch 2's preorder rollout has been massively impacted by Trump's tariffs, but that's not why the console has been indefinitely delayed in China — here's all we knowTech11:33, 10 Apr 2025Switch 2 is just a couple of months away(Image: AFP via Getty Images)Nintendo finally revealed the Switch 2 last week after months of waiting, and it's fair to say many of us have been getting our preorders in since. That's unless you're in the US, in which case preorders are severely delayed thanks to Trump's tariffs. Still, if you have managed to order yours, you'll no doubt be excited about the more powerful console, that Switch 2 will be able to play upgraded versions, and what that mysterious 'C' button does.Article continues belowIf you're in China, however, you'll need to temper your expectations. Nikkei is reporting (thanks, VGC) that Nintendo wants to see what demand is like for its latest console before committing to the console's launch.Mario Kart World is Nintendo's big Switch 2 launch title(Image: Nintendo)It's another twist in the tale of Nintendo and China, which has particularly tight regulations on video games and consoles within its borders. The original Switch is available in the country, but didn't launch until two years after it launched elsewhere.Nintendo has previously advised Chinese players that the Nintendo eShop is being shut down on March 31, 2026, and is giving away free games as compensation.Chinese Switch owners with an active WeChat account (an app that's pretty ubiquitous in China) can snag Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe, Pokemon Let's Go! Pikachu, and Super Mario Odyssey before the deadline.Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders are now open at most UK online stores(Image: AFP via Getty Images)Chinese gamers tend to play more mobile games than buying dedicated gaming hardware, which likely also factors into Nintendo's decision making.Given the Switch 2 preorders have already been delayed in the US and Canada thanks to President Trump's tariffs, there's every chance the company will look to launch in China later on — but it's not looking likely any time soon.Nintendo partners with Chinese megacorporation Tencent to help with Switch distribution in the country, but Tencent declined to comment when Nikkei approached to ask about the new system. For more on Nintendo Switch 2, be sure to check out what the console was almost called, as well as the one surprising game we hope gets a second chance at success on the platform.Article continues belowFor the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletters.0 Commentaires 0 Parts 78 Vue

WWW.DAILYSTAR.CO.UKRockstar boss explains GTA 6 release date silence as fed-up fans wait for Trailer 2Getting worried about GTA 6? You're not alone, but Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has said it's all part of the plan — here's what he had to say in a recent interviewTech11:48, 10 Apr 2025Will GTA 6 make 2025 after all? You've got to hand it to Rockstar Games — the team does what it wants, and in a world of games being revealed years in advance, the company has sat on Grand Theft Auto 6 for almost 18 months. The game is likely to be the biggest game of 2025 (and likely of all time), but as we covered yesterday, the studio's radio silence has fans feeling a little cautious about getting their hopes up — could GTA 6 be hit with a late delay?Article continues belowWhile the prevailing timeline is an October launch, we're still waiting for Rockstar to give us a second trailer. In fact, we're waiting to get just about anything. As it happens, though, it's all part of the plan.Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick spoke to Bloomberg recently, and was asked about GTA 6's marketing campaign — or lack thereof.“We do have competitors who will describe their release schedule for years in advance,” Zelnick said.“We found that the better thing to do is to provide marketing materials relatively close to the release window in order to create that excitement on the one hand and balance the excitement with unmet anticipation. We don’t always get it exactly right, but that’s what we are trying to do.”GTA 6 is still slated for 2025, as far as we know(Image: Rockstar Games/AFP via Getty Ima)Zelnick is right, though — Rockstar has done this to great effect. GTA 5's first trailer debuted in November 2011, before the second one arrived in April 2013, just months before its eventual launch.Red Dead Redemption 2 got trailers in October 2016 and September 2017, with the game eventually launching in 2018 following a series of delays.“The anticipation for [GTA 6] may be the greatest I’ve ever seen for an entertainment property, and I’ve been around the block a few times and I’ve been in every entertainment business there is," Zelnick told Bloomberg."We want to maintain the anticipation and the excitement,” he added — which means this quiet period could be the calm before the storm.Article continues belowFor more on GTA 6, check out why Rockstar Games might follow a Nintendo-set precedent for its pricing, and how other publishers are scrambling to clear the game's inevitable 'blast zone'.For the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletters.0 Commentaires 0 Parts 78 Vue

WWW.DAILYSTAR.CO.UKBungie's Marathon tipped for 2025 release as year gets even more stacked2025 could be one of the best years in gaming, with Bungie's Marathon tipped to join the likes of Switch 2, Monster Hunter Wilds, and maybe even GTA 6 – here's all we knowTech11:45, 09 Apr 2025Updated 11:45, 09 Apr 2025We're eager to get our first proper look at MarathonWhile Bungie is known for Halo and Destiny, with the latter proving divisive for some, the company's Marathon franchise predates them both. After fans completed a series of puzzles which confirmed a gameplay showcase is coming this week, the company is full speed ahead on its first release since 2024's Destiny 2 Final Shape expansion.Article continues belowWhile the studio has been working on Marathon for over a decade, fans are keen to hear more about the sci-fi, PvP extraction shooter, and now one longtime leaker has suggested it'll land sooner than you may think. Here's all we know about when we could be playing Bungie's Marathon.Content cannot be displayed without consentPosting on X (formerly Twitter), Insider Gaming owner Tom Henderson (who has a history of leaking information on unreleased games) joked about the "Marathon grind"."Told the missus I'll be on a Marathon grind later this year and she's only gone and signed me up the gym," he joked. When asked if this means Marathon will launch in 2025, though, his response was much shorter, simply saying "Yes".You can catch the latest video, setting the stage for the upcoming gameplay reveal, below. If Henderson's information is correct, then 2025 would surely have to be considered one of the biggest years in gaming history. While 2023 was considered a vintage year thanks to Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Star Wars Jedi Survivor and Baldur's Gate 3 among others, 2025 is already off to a great start.Assassin's Creed Shadows, Monster Hunter Wilds, Avowed, and Split Fiction have all launched already, while the Switch 2 and GTA 6 are also pegged for this calendar year.Marathon was initially revealed at a PlayStation event in May 2023 and marks the first new game to be launched since Bungie was acquired by Sony in 2022 for $3.6 billion.Marathon certainly looks colourfulFear not though, Destiny fans. Bungie has committed to a revamped roadmap for the title, which means Destiny 2 will receive two mid-sized expansions each year, as well as additional free updates, rather than one major expansion each calendar year.Bungie's latest release was The Final Shape, a Destiny 2 expansion which launched to critical acclaim in June of last year, but wasn't enough to prevent the aforementioned layoffs at the fabled studio.Article continues belowDespite the Sony acquisition, Marathon is expected to be a multiplatform release across PS5, Xbox, and PC.For the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletters.0 Commentaires 0 Parts 82 Vue

It'll also introduce new Lair Bosses, Reliquaries, and a rather nebulous "Season Journey Update", plus a two-year anniversary event.July's update, dubbed Sins of the Horadrim and likely Season 9, will introduce new Horadric Powers, a Dungeon Escalation, and another earnable pet, as well as new Nightmare Dungeon activities and the long-awaited arrival of keyboard and mouse support on console.Diablo 4 is still a game we return to oftenFinally, for 2025, Infernal Chaos brings Chaos Powers, an Infernal Hordes Update and, you guessed it, another pet. Blizzard promises there's "more to come", too, before 2026 introduces an expansion, ranking system, leaderboards and surely a new class (or are we being greedy?).Curiously, there are two 'IP Collabs' listed for Seasons 8 and 10, which will seemingly act as crossovers. We've already had World of Warcraft items, but Blizzard isn't ready to tell just yet."We can’t shed light on them currently, but we’re extremely excited to meld the Diablo universe with universes that complement its dark themes." WWW.DAILYSTAR.CO.UKCoD classics Modern Warfare 2 and 3 set for PS5 and Xbox re-releases after leaked ratingsCall of Duty finally seems to have made fans happy with its Verdansk return in Warzone, but they could lose their minds if reports of Modern Warfare 2 and 3 re-releases are trueTech12:24, 09 Apr 2025We could be set for an even more impressive remasterCall of Duty fans have had their cake and are eating it after Warzone's Season 3 update brought back the Verdansk map, but the nostalgia might not stop there.A new leak has suggested Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3 re-releases could be on the way, just months after reports Microsoft could drop classic CoD titles on Game Pass in the coming months.Article continues belowWhile fans have no doubt come to expect remakes of classic maps, some felt a little disappointed that Modern Warfare 2 (considered by many as the pinnacle of the series) didn't get the full remake treatment like its predecessor.Still, if you're still feeling sore we only got the campaign remastered, Insider Gaming is reporting that Modern Warfare 2 and 3 are being tipped for a re-release thanks to Australia's ratings board. The Modern Warfare timeline is getting a tad complex(Image: DS )According to the report, both Modern Warfare 2 and 3 have received MA 15+ ratings in Australia, and Modern Warfare 2 is specifically dubbed a "cross-gen edition" for PS5 which suggests it could be available on PS4, too.Modern Warfare 3 is also listed as "cross-gen" but without the PS5 tag, but given Microsoft owns the franchise now it seems unlikely either game wouldn't be on Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One.We know what you're thinking: "We just had Modern Warfare 2 and 3". In reality, the series' timeline gets a little more complicated than it needs to be, with Modern Warfare II in 2022, and Modern Warfare III in 2023 (note the numerals in place of numbers). So, what could these re-releases be? We don't yet know, but they could be full remakes, visually upgraded remasters, or just the same games brought to new consoles. After all, the original Modern Warfare 2 and 3 were released on Xbox 360 and PS3, although the former versions are backwards compatible with newer Xbox consoles.Modern Warfare III (back to the numerals) launched with remastered versions of Modern Warfare 2 (numbers) maps, too, so Activision could get more mileage out of those by re-releasing them here. We'd also imagine we're not all that far out from hearing about whatever 2025's game ends up being for the annual franchise. Black Ops 6 was a great return to form after Modern Warfare III felt a little disappointing, but rumours have suggested we won't get a direct sequel until 2026.Article continues belowFor the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletters.0 Commentaires 0 Parts 74 Vue

WWW.DAILYSTAR.CO.UKNintendo Switch 2 was almost called something fans predicted years agoNintendo doesn't tend to add a number to its consoles, and it's now been revealed that the Switch 2 system almost had a very different name that fans had joked about years agoTech10:38, 09 Apr 2025Will Switch 2 be 'Super'?(Image: PA)At a special Nintendo Direct event on April 2, the company finally revealed the Switch 2. Alongside the console's specs, we got confirmation that Switch 2 will be able to play upgraded versions of existing Switch games, Mario Kart World will cost a whopping £75, and what that mysterious 'C' button does.In fact, one of the things that wasn't a surprise was the console's name (having been revealed all the way back in January), but as covered in an "Ask the Developer" interview, the Switch 2 was almost called something very different – something fans had suspected years ago.Article continues belowHere's all we learned.Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders are now open at most UK online stores(Image: AFP via Getty Images)Asked how the team came to call the console by its name, Switch 2 Producer Kouichi Kawamoto revealed it could have been called the Super Nintendo Switch."There were a lot of ideas for the name, and we really struggled to find the right one," he admitted."We even considered ideas like “Super Nintendo Switch.” However, Super NES, which came out after the NES, couldn’t play NES games."Since Switch 2 can play Switch games, it didn't feel right to use the same naming convention as Super NES. Switch 2 is a new system with improved performance, but we'd like players who get their hands on it not to focus on the specs, but rather to think of it as the latest system developed by Nintendo."So, in the hope that it becomes the new standard for Nintendo Switch, we named it Nintendo Switch 2."The console launches on June 5Reddit threads dating back years had the Switch's successor pegged as being the Super Nintendo Switch, but it's interesting to hear how Nintendo came to the decision.Fans will remember there being some confusion over the naming of the Nintendo Wii, but it went on to sell by the bucketload until everyone and their Nan was playing bowling in their living room. Its successor, the Wii U, was a big disappointment, with some industry commentators putting its lack of success down to confusion about whether it was a new console or just a super-charged Wii – so it's perhaps not too much of a surprise to see Nintendo go all-in with the big number in the console's name.It also acts as a fun reminder that naming a console isn't as easy as it seems – unless you're Sony, of course.Article continues belowFor the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletters.0 Commentaires 0 Parts 76 Vue

WWW.DAILYSTAR.CO.UKElder Scrolls Oblivion Remake tipped to launch "at any moment" by gaming insiderIt's been too long since we got a fresh Elder Scrolls title, but the long-rumoured Oblivion Remake could be about to drop any moment according to one insider — here's all we know about the project so farTech10:39, 08 Apr 2025Updated 11:08, 08 Apr 2025Combat could be different in the Oblivion Remake(Image: Bethesda/4J Studios/Superscape)After Starfield in 2023 and Fallout 4 in 2015, it's now been almost 14 years since the last Elder Scrolls mainline title with Skyrim. And, while we've seen it ported to just about everything else since, we're about to get another Tamriel adventure — albeit a familiar one.Last month, we reported on an Elder Scrolls Oblivion Remake being tipped to launch in April — but Microsoft's relative silence had many wondering if the reports were wide of the mark.Article continues belowWhile Elder Scrolls Online keeps growing with new content and expansions, however, it appears Microsoft is planning to 'shadow drop' the Unreal Engine 5 version of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion — and it could arrive any minute, according to one new report.Speaking on a stream this week (thanks, VGC), Giant Bomb's Jeff Grubb mentioned sources have told him "it's going to shadow drop at any moment this month.""It's going to shadow drop pretty soon" he added."At this rate it could come out in the next 10 minutes," one Reddit comment joked, while another said "I’m tired of hearing about it already. I wanna see how it looks already."Considering how much we've heard about the project, it does feel as though all that's left to do at this point is show us what Cyrodil looks like in Unreal Engine 5.Combat has reportedly been overhauled(Image: Bethesda/4J Studios/Superscape)The game is reportedly being developed by Virtuos, which is also apparently contributing to the Metal Gear Solid Delta project that will remake the third Metal Gear Solid title.Earlier reports suggested the Elder Scrolls IV remake will see changes made to various in-game systems from the 2006 original, with blocking during combat apparently closer to a Soulslike title.Additionally, stealth, stamina, archery and the game's HUD will be reworked, as well as hit reaction from NPCs. Oblivion was an early title for the Xbox 360, arriving just a few months after the console before being ported to PS3 the following year.It helped establish Bethesda's open-ended role-playing formula which would then be bettered by Skyrim in 2011, with Fallout 3 released in the gap between. After years of switching between Elder Scrolls and Fallout, Bethesda Game Studios released Starfield in 2023. The game, while divisive with some fans, marked the first Bethesda RPG since the company was acquired by Microsoft.Article continues belowFor the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletters.0 Commentaires 0 Parts 83 Vue

WWW.DAILYSTAR.CO.UK'Keychron's Q6 Max keyboard is big and beautiful – the best just keeps getting better'Looking for a full-sized keyboard that's as customisable as they come? Keychron's latest Q6 Max ticks those boxes, although it does lack portability as a resultTech16:00, 08 Apr 2025This article contains affiliate links, which means we will receive commission on any sale of products or services we write. Learn moreThe aluminium shell is durable, but heavy(Image: Keychron/Lloyd Coombes)If you’ve been reading my work here at Daily Star, you’ll know I’ve been writing about keyboards (specifically mechanical ones) for a little while now. They’ve become a bit of a hobby, and I’ve amassed a bit of a collection (more on that in the coming days). It’s actually Keychron that started me down this path, with the brand offering a whole heap of fantastic keyboards. Now, I own about half a dozen (just from Keychron), that I rotate between on any given day — but the new Q6 Max might be the one. It’s a big, full-sized board that maintains everything great about Keychron, while offering plenty of keys to tweak with the company’s Keychron Launcher software. There are so many keys here(Image: Keychron/Lloyd Coombes)I tend to operate solely on TKL boards (that’s Tenkeyless, or sans numpad) because I find very little reason to use it, but the Q6 Max has so many keys it would feel a shame to chop it down at all.The board is made from aluminium, and each key has a swappable switch that gets just the right amount of travel. The downside to this is that the Q6 Max, as the name suggests, isn’t the most portable keyboard around. It’s heavy, it’s long, and it doesn’t have any adjustable ‘feet’, making it less customisable than the company’s smaller, lighter boards with multiple typing angles.Keychron's Q6 Max is a beauty(Image: Keychron/Lloyd Coombes)And yet, I find that to be part of the charm. Each key feels so comfortable after a couple of years with boards like the Q1 Max and the Q1 HE that it’s easy to get typing up a storm, and I’ve even found myself using it for some games — although I still find myself going TKL for the majority of twitchier titles. There’s just about everything you could need, and then some. I use it primarily on macOS (there are Windows keys in the box, too), and having a single key for Spotlight and screenshots is a nice touch by default, while Keychron’s control knob still feels the best in the business to me.Keychron has a series of extra keys you can customise(Image: Keychron/Lloyd Coombes)Naturally, the default is only part of the experience, and Keychron’s own Launcher software is a great way to customise just about every aspect of the Q6 Max.Remapping keys is easy once you plug the board in, but the inclusion of the number pad, plus plenty of additional keys, means you can really get creative. Want a single button to act as a shortcut to turn your Mac to Dark Mode? Set up a single key to activate that keybind. It rewards those happy to get stuck in, and it’s easy to roll back anything that hasn’t worked how you expected it to.It’s also easy to switch between Mac and PC. WWW.DAILYSTAR.CO.UKNintendo confirms Switch 2 price for Switch 1 ports – it's more than buying a new gameThe fallout from the Nintendo Switch 2 announcement continues, as pricing is finally confirmed for upgraded versions of Switch 1 games — but they could cost you dearlyTech13:15, 08 Apr 2025Breath of the Wild was one of the best games of all time - and it launched alongside the Switch(Image: Nintendo)At a special Nintendo Direct event on April 2, the company revealed the Switch 2, its pricing, and its launch lineup. One of the most exciting tidbits was confirmation that the Switch 2 will be able to play upgraded versions of Switch 1 titles, meaning that while Mario Kart World will headline the initial rollout, there are a wealth of iconic titles to replay or check out for the first time.Article continues belowWe'd be lying if we said 4K visuals on Zelda duo Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom weren't a big factor in preordering the new console, but they'll be joined by "Switch 2 Editions" of Super Mario Party Jamboree, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, and more. Now, however, preorder pricing has been confirmed — and it's steeper than we imagined. It still feels like magic that Tears of the Kingdom runs on the Switch(Image: Steam)While we already knew Switch 2 editions of Switch 1 games would cost $80 in the United States, preorder information confirmed today that physical versions of Super Mario Party Jamboree, Kirby and the Forgotten Land and both 3D Zelda titles will set UK gamers back £66.99.While the games can be played via backward compatibility, Switch 2 owners will need to fork out for improved visuals and fresh features — although this amount is yet to be confirmed by Nintendo. If users are subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online, they can get the Zelda Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom upgrades for free.Mario Kart World is expensive(Image: Nintendo)Much of the community sentiment since the Switch 2 reveal has been fans taking umbrage with the price. The system will cost £395, with Mario Kart World retailing for £75 — albeit discounted when purchased with the system.Pairs of Joy-Con controllers will retail for £75 (the same as the new Pro controller), while the new Nintendo Switch 2 camera will set players back £50.Article continues belowOther information to trickle out since the event have included news that the system's new Joy Con controllers are redesigned from the ground up, but won't have Hall Effect sticks to negate drift, while the 'C' button will seemingly be useless without a Nintendo Switch Online membership. That's on top of President Trump's tariffs causing havoc for Japanese gaming companies. For the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletters.0 Commentaires 0 Parts 88 Vue

WWW.DAILYSTAR.CO.UKNintendo to charge gamers for Switch 2's new C button – here's what it doesNintendo finally revealed what that mystery 'C' button does on the Switch 2, and while it certainly sounds impressive, it'll be reserved for paying customers — although there is good newsTech11:03, 08 Apr 2025Updated 11:03, 08 Apr 2025Mario Kart is back for the first time in yearsLast week, Nintendo revealed the Switch 2, and in the days since we've seen more information trickle out from Nintendo and its publishing partners. The new console won't have Hall Effect sticks, but will have a stacked launch lineup of new and older titles, including third-party games like Cyberpunk 2077, Elden Ring, and more. One of the biggest questions we'd had before the event was what that new 'C' button on the right Joy-Con controller does, and Nintendo has confirmed it'll be tied to cross-game party chat via the company's 'GameChat' service.Article continues belowAnd, while it certainly seems impressive, there is an asterisk next to the feature.Nintendo has commented on the new Joy Con sticksLeaks last month had predicted Nintendo would finally push online chat further than the Switch 1's awkward companion app, and while it's been a long time coming, it's certainly a welcome update.GameChat will let players chat together regardless of which game they're playing, and can watch other players via picture-in-picture — albeit with a pretty choppy frame rate if the unveiling event is anything to go by.It's all tied into the new 'C' button, but it relies on having a Nintendo Switch Online membership to use. Without that, it doesn't do a great deal.Nintendo's Vice President of Player and Product Experience Bill Trinen told Polygon that without a membership to the company's online service, players will just be prompted to sign up.Switch 2 is just a couple of months away(Image: AFP via Getty Images)“You would be able to find out about the NSO subscription there and get a sense of some of the functionality,” he said.“NSO really is a critical piece of the Nintendo Switch 2 experience," Trinen adds, and it makes sense in some ways when rivals charge similar fees for online multiplayer.Still, with some complaints the Switch 2 is too expensive (and with Trump's tariffs potentially making things even worse), having a button feel like a paid-only feature will rankle some.Thankfully, you have some time to decide if the GameChat functionality is for you. Nintendo is letting all players use it until March 31, 2026 free of charge.NSO will also include additional classic games, including GameCube titles., when Switch 2 arrives. Expect a full review from Daily Star when the console arrives in June to help you make up your mind about whether GameChat is worth the price of admission.Article continues belowFor the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletters.0 Commentaires 0 Parts 81 Vue

WWW.DAILYSTAR.CO.UK'After the Switch 2 unveiling, here's one game I hope Nintendo gives a second chance'Nintendo's Switch 2 will launch with Mario Kart World and upgraded versions of Zelda titles, but there's one game I want to play on it more than any other — and you may not have heard of itTech22:00, 07 Apr 2025Updated 08:59, 08 Apr 2025Wild Hearts should get another chanceLast week's reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2 offered a little bit of everything. We got hardware information, confirmation that it will launch with Mario Kart World, and third-party ports including Elden Ring. And, while Hollow Knight fans finally got a brief (three second) glimpse of Silksong, there was another title on the sizzle reel part of the Nintendo Direct that got me more excited than almost anything else.Article continues belowLet me tell you all the tragic tale of Wild Hearts, a 2023 title that deserved much more love than it got — but might just be set for a renaissance with the Switch 2.While EA is best known for its sports titles and Battlefield, back in 2023 the company published Wild Hearts. The game was, essentially, a Monster Hunter-like game set in a fantasy world inspired by Feudal Japan.Players would hunt huge monsters based on Japanese folklore (Kemono), then turn them into new weapons and armour. It's about as close to Monster Hunter as you can get, but with a unique Karakuri system that meant players could gather resources to build traps and weapons like a comically large hammer that could send Kemono flying.Karakuri are so much fun to useUnlike It Takes Two and Unravel (its siblings on the EA Originals label), however, Wild Hearts seemingly struggled to find an audience despite looking absolutely beautiful. Poor PC performance, and good-but-not-great reviews meant EA dropped support for the game just a few months after launch. As a big Monster Hunter fan that really enjoyed my time with Wild Hearts, it felt like there would be no further news about the game — until it popped up in that Switch 2 reveal.Wild Hearts is a really good-looking gameAs for what's new, it's not immediately clear. Players can now hunt in groups of four rather than the three on the previous version, while EA is seemingly nowhere to be seen as Omega Force has seemingly grabbed the IP from its former partner.Article continues belowGiven the studio had designs to make it a pillar franchise along the same lines of Dynasty Warriors, that could be a masterstroke if Wild Hearts can bring players in with the Switch 2 launch and keep them playing with regular content updates.Thankfully, we don't have long to find out — while Switch 2 launches on June 5, Wild Hearts S will arrive on July 25. Here's hoping it can make a real go of things this time around. WWW.DAILYSTAR.CO.UKGTA 6 fans 'descending into madness' as Trailer 2 date passes by with Rockstar silenceGTA 6 fans are joking about the 'madness' of waiting for an update from Rockstar Games after almost a year and a half of radio silence on the open-world epic — thankfully, we think they're jokingTech08:00, 08 Apr 2025Rockstar could headline one of the best years in gaming(Image: Rockstar)Grand Theft Auto 6 is still slated to launch in 2025 (unless we get a delay), but you'd be forgiven for thinking it might never come out at all. That's because Rockstar Games has said nothing about the title since December 2023, when it dropped the first trailer. After some fans were convinced April 1 would see the launch of another trailer (or at least another update on the title), we're still waiting — and the process is starting to take its toll.Article continues belowWhile some were making their dissatisfaction known back in December, one Reddit post has been gaining some traction for describing a "descent into madness" as the wait goes on for GTA 6 news. We really hope they're joking...Posting on the GTA 6 subreddit, one fan said "I’ve been having GTA 6 dreams the past 2 nights.""The first one I distinctly remember playing the game and being extremely bored, Rockstar's lifelike Vice city cityscape, a barren wasteland, no civilians, no helicopters, no hustle abs bustle, no neon lights and I’m extremely bored, the rest is fuzzy."Last night was similar except I remember absolutely nothing, only that it was also GTA 6 themed."Now here I lay, at 2:32 am, waiting to fall asleep so I can be very tired when I have to get up for work in 5 1/2 hours, wondering, what’s will come next, will I be given visions of what’s to come for this community to alleviate the suffering we are all experiencing brothers and sisters? Who knows."This is the tale of a GTA fan who is eagerly anticipating more news, more information, more anything about the most anticipated game of his life."Here's hoping we get a new trailer soon(Image: Rockstar)It's... a lot to take in, and while the poster has said they posted for comedic purposes, their bizarre commitment to the bit means they posted "I can wait" twice in a row."I'm glad you're doing well — and hey, it's kinda comforting to know we're not alone in this collective frustration," another user added, while another suggested therapy.Still, it's not a new phenomenon apparently. "I used to have nightmares about GTA San Andreas getting delayed to 2060. That was 2004," one longtime fan said.Article continues belowWhether it's real or not, it's clear Rockstar's hesitance to show, well, anything has fans chomping at the bit for the next morsel of GTA 6 news. For the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletters.0 Commentaires 0 Parts 44 Vue

WWW.DAILYSTAR.CO.UKNintendo Switch 2 buyers beware as company confirms much-requested feature didn't make the cutFans can't wait to get their hands on Nintendo Switch 2, but one much-requested feature isn't included on the new hardware here's all we know about the lack of Hall Effect sticksTech16:36, 07 Apr 2025Joy-Con will be magnetic now, but don't expect Hall Effect sticksLast week, Nintendo finally revealed the Switch 2 fully, including its launch titles, console preorder options, and much more. The console will offer a 1080p built-in display and 4K output when docked, while offering enough power to run Cyberpunk 2077, Elden Ring, and more.Article continues belowThat's reason enough for celebration, but Nintendo didn't discuss one of the most requested features for the new console Hall Effect joysticks. These are essentially analog sticks that use magnets to determine their position, meaning they can't succumb to drift. That's particularly important because drift was one of the biggest issues with the first Switch console. And, while we now have our answer, it might not be what you were hoping for.Nintendo has commented on the new Joy Con sticksNintendo Life asked Nintendo about the new magnetic Joy-Cons, specifically whether they will use Hall Effect technology (named after physicist Edwin Hall), the company confirmed that they will not."Well, the Joy-Con 2s controllers have been designed from the ground up, said Nate Bihldorff, senior vice president of product development and publishing.Theyre not Hall Effect sticks, but they feel really good. The Pro controller is also an option(Image: AP)There is some good news, though. The company also confirmed that the Switch 2 Pro Controller will have quieter control sticks. As revealed in an Ask The Developer Interview, Producer Kouichi Kawamoto said "In particular, the left and right control sticks are quieter and dont make noise, even when theyre moved quickly to the edge. Also, they glide very smoothly, so we've taken to calling them 'smooth-gliding sticks'.Bihldorff suggested that Gamecube players will feel right at home with the new Pro Controller."For some reason the first time I grabbed it, I was like, "this feels like a GameCube controller." I was a GameCube guy. Something about it felt so familiar, but the stick on that especially. I tried to spend a lot of time making sure that it was quiet."Article continues below"I don't know if you tried really whacking the stick around but it really is [quiet]. I'm thinking back to my Smash Brothers days, where you just whack it. [The Switch 2 Pro Controller] is one of the quietest controllers I've ever played."Whether the redesigned Joy-Con controllers will be enough to placate the fanbase crying out for a Hall Effect revamp remains to be seen, but expect it to be front of mind when Switch 2 debuts on June 5.For the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletters.0 Commentaires 0 Parts 87 Vue

WWW.DAILYSTAR.CO.UKLatest GTA 6 price warning suggests Rockstar will follow Switch 2 precedentNintendo's announcement of more expensive games could give Rockstar the opportunity to ramp up the price of GTA 6 something that's been rumoured multiple times beforeTech13:01, 07 Apr 2025Updated 13:01, 07 Apr 2025GTA 6 will be the biggest game of the year, unless it slips to 2026(Image: Rockstar Games)Aside from Grand Theft Auto 6, the other biggest gaming release of 2025 will likely be the new Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo pulled back the curtain on the console last week, confirming it'll launch on June 5 (although US preorders are delayed). While Rockstar's ambitious open-world epic is likely to be too big for Switch 2 to handle, one Nintendo announcement may have given Rockstar Games and its publisher Take-Two food for thought.Article continues belowNintendo will charge $80 or 75 for Mario Kart World (unless you buy it in a bundle with the system at a discount), which is a notable increase on the 60 UK gamers are paying at present. Given we've heard GTA 6 could end up costing even more, has Nintendo set a precedent for Take-Two to follow?GTA 6 may be the most anticipated game of all timeBack in January, one industry analyst suggested GTA 6 being priced higher than other titles could help the games industry. The 219-page report "State of Video Gaming in 2025" from investment analyst and researcher Matthew Ball of Epyllion has suggested Rockstar pricing its long-awaited title higher than the industry norm could help the entire industry recover from a post-pandemic lull.In the report, Ball suggests Rockstar being the first developer to charge upwards of $80 (or even $100) could nudge others to do the same. Take-Two raised prices in 2020 from $60 to $70, so it's not outside the realms of possibility. Not long after, however, another industry analyst dubbed the notion as "ridiculous".We're heading back to Vice City(Image: Rockstar Games/AFP via Getty Ima)Longtime industry analyst Mat Piscatella from Circana (formerly NPD) said "This is getting so much run but it's ridiculous.""There's no need to make the base price of any game $100. Special editions, collector's editions, gold/silver editions, etc etc do the same thing, and a high % of day 1 buyers jump on those at their elevated price points.""There's just no need," he added, before following up to say "You want to make the funnel as wide as possible, while also optimizing launch $.""You don't do this be [sic] making the base price of a game so high that the funnel narrows."Article continues belowSo, will Nintendo embolden Rockstar? Time will tell, but if it does, expect other publishers to follow suit in the coming months. For the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletters.0 Commentaires 0 Parts 128 Vue

WWW.DAILYSTAR.CO.UKBungie's Marathon to get gameplay trailer next week after fans complete complex puzzlesBungie is still working to bring Destiny 2 into a new era, but the studio's second title, Marathon, will get a gameplay reveal next week here's all we know so farTech10:21, 07 Apr 2025Updated 10:23, 07 Apr 2025Marathon has a unique sci-fi style that sets it apartBungie has created some of the biggest shooter franchises on the planet between Halo and Destiny, but the company is returning to a classic with its new version of Marathon. The series, which began in 1994, will see a reboot as a PvP extraction shooter, but fans had been concerned it might never see the light of day after major layoffs at the studio in the wake of Destiny 2's Final Shape expansion.Article continues belowThankfully, after setting players some tricky puzzles to work their way through, Bungie has finally confirmed we can expect our first look at Marathon gameplay in just a few days' time less than two weeks after another big update to Destiny 2.Here's all we know about what's coming:Over the last few days, the Marathon community has been working to solve an ARG (alternative reality game) which featured a whole host of tricky challenges. The reward? The trailer you see above, showing a character seemingly meeting their end before meeting an adorable cyber cat and the promise of more to come on April 12.The game was revealed at the PlayStation Showcase in May 2023 and confirmed to offer a PvP extraction shooter. The new version of Marathon will offer "evolving, persistent zones" and is set in the same universe as the originals from the nineties. We're eager to get our first proper look at MarathonBehind the scenes, Bungie dismissed project lead Chris Barrett following "disturbing communications" with female colleagues, leading to Joe Ziegler taking over the role. Ziegler was previously Game Director for Riot Games' VALORANT, so knows a thing or two about competitive shooters. The game's initial reveal trailer, where pictures from this article are taken from, has been praised for its unique aesthetic. Some Destiny fans have railed against Marathon due to fears it'll take resources away from the loot-shooter franchise that began in 2014, but Bungie has committed to a revamped roadmap for the title.Destiny 2 will receive two mid-sized expansions each year, as well as additional free updates, rather than one major expansion each calendar year.Bungie's latest release was The Final Shape, a Destiny 2 expansion which launched to critical acclaim in June of last year, but wasn't enough to prevent the aforementioned layoffs at the fabled studio.Article continues belowFor the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletters.0 Commentaires 0 Parts 98 Vue

Like, is there just a space elevator in the ocean there? Maybe you have to blast off from DK Spaceport?"In case you missed it, the new Mario Kart title sees players race between tracks, so by that logic we'll need to get into the sky somehow.Switch 2 is just a couple of months away(Image: AFP via Getty Images)Over on Resetera, eagle-eyed fans have also spotted that Nintendo's Korea site has shown Pauline could be returning as a younger version of the character who will accompany Donkey Kong in his Switch 2 debut Bananza.Article continues belowWhile fans of Super Mario Odyssey may have been a tad disappointed not to see a fresh 3D Mario game announced (something that was tipped to happen), the return of Pauline would be a welcome one even if she appears much younger than when we last saw her as Mayor of New Donk City. For the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletters.0 Commentaires 0 Parts 99 Vue
