Recently, theyve rebuked a $200 million lawsuit from former D2 director, and they have also rebuked accusations of plagiarism in court. From this, a popular Destiny 2 YouTuber has responded to Bungie using their video.Destiny 2 YouTuber responds to Bungie using their lore videoBack in October 2024, Game File reported on a lawsuit against Destiny 2 by sci-fi writer, Matthew Kelsey Martineau. The writer accused Bungie of plagiarism with the Red War campaign and the depiction of an enemy faction called the Red Legion. From Bungies rebuttal, the developer confirmed they cannot bring back old content sorely wanted by D2 fans. The vaulted content cannot be brought back, and its been retired due to no longer being compatible with the game.Due to the fact the Red War campaign no longer exists in Destiny 2 and cannot be brought back, Bungie had to cite videos from YouTubers. Per Game File, Bungie told the court in the Martineau lawsuit, they cannot just submit a copy of Destiny 2 as a trial exhibit to establish the facts of their games story.Unable to use their own game for exhibition, Bungie instead used a 10-hour lore video titled The Complete Story of Destiny! From Origins to Final Shape! Light & Dark Saga Lore & Timeline from popular D2 YouTuber, MynameisByf. Bungie also cited Destiny 2: The Red War All Cutscenes (Season 1) by Destin.Destiny 2 players are disappointed content prior to Beyond Light cannot be brought back, and Bungie having to rely on YouTubers is considered proof that vaulting content was a bad idea. This is because huge chunks of gameplay are missing, and a large portion of the overall story is missing, too, which is especially bad for potential newcomers. In response to Bungie using their video that has over 2 million views, MynameisByf said on X, If I had a nickel for every time Bungie mentioned me in a legal case Id have 2 nickels Its not a lot but its weird that it happened twice. The YouTuber also said, I wholeheartedly agree, in response to a user saying YouTubers cataloguing [Bungies] lore and story should not be a replacement for gameplay.Image credit: @MynameIsByf on XFor more Destiny 2, leaks have revealed a weapon thats so good it feels like youre cheating, and Sony has responded to a$200 million dollar lawsuitfrom former D2 director.
