It appears that following Steams better-late-than-never confirmation that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 does indeed feature AI-generated content something many had been pointing out since the games launch all masks are now off, with Activision going all-in on AI-generated visuals and becoming a laughingstock of the gaming community over the weekend for using a generated image in an official announcement for Guitar Hero Mobile.Shared on Activisions official Instagram, the announcement caught everyones attention not for the reveal of a beloved franchise going mobile, but for perhaps one of the most glaring, in-your-face examples of AI usage in promotional material, as seen in the image above.With two blue paths, a band made entirely of guitarists, distorted speakers, and the general AI jankiness of the image, it was the opposite of subtlety, and even those not involved in the humans vs. AI art debate could quickly tell the picture was machine-generated, leading to criticism in the comment section of the original post and across social media and forums.The promotional image was so bad that it did the impossible and brought together both pro-AI and anti-AI groups, with the latter criticizing Activision for using AI visuals in the first place, and the former for employing outdated AI models from 2022. Shortly after, the announcement was hidden, however, the Instagram post is still accessible via a direct link.
