Split Fiction, the next game from It Takes Two makers Hazelight Studios, is out this week, and is the latest example that 2025 is a strong year for co-op games.Like It Takes Two, which won Game of the Year at the 2021 Game Awards and has since gone on to sell a staggering 20 million copies, Split Fiction is a mandatorily cooperative game. The gimmick here is that each writer primarily writes in different genres (Mio writes sci-fi, Zoe fantasy), so you end up traversing between science fiction and fantasy realms.As with It Takes Two, Split Fiction cares not to commit to a single playstyle rapidly zipping through platformer, shooter, puzzle, and stealth missions. One minute, youre traversing a cyberpunk city full of flying cars; the next, youre rowing a floating boat through a mystical forest; the minute after that, youre two hot dogs on a grill, trying to do whatever hot dogs do on a grill? Were not quite sure what that sections deal is. We havent it in action yet beyond the trailer.Also, there be dragons.Split Fiction will support the Friends Pass feature from It Takes Two, which allows you to cooperatively play online with friend even if only one of you owns a copy.
