As a busy single mom to two boys, designer and TV personality Breegan Jane knows family dynamics as well as she does design. When she found this Venice Beach abode, a mere 10 miles from where she grew up, she realized it was right where her crew belongedbut it would need to be reconfigured to fit her forever-home vision. That wish list included ocean views, party-ready spaces, and peaceful rooms for retreat. Most important, it had to be designed to foster the life she wanted to live when not traveling.Buy Breegan's Book HereWhat did that mean for Jane? An easy-to-maintain house that reflects her creative family. And thats exactly what she goteven though there is white everywhere. My house is tidy at all times because I picked surfaces to support my lifestyle, not the other way around, she says. FAST FACTSDesigner:Location: Design has to support the life you want and how you want to live.KITCHENIts for disco dancing and dining.Ryan GarvinCabinet cladding and countertops: Neolith. Stools: Eichholtz. Hardware: Cozy Stylish Chic. Flooring: Semco. Fixtures: Kohler. The admitted non-cook designed this space to function as what she wanted the heart of her home to be: party central. Prioritizing easily cleaned, low-maintenance surfaces was step one, because messes happen. Step two was infusing it with her personal style. She designed the staircase to connect with an outer island, turning the countertop into an elevated dance floor (without missing a beat) and selected a spotlight that automatically illuminates when a trio of rotating disco balls starts turning. The result prioritizes shaking hips over tossing salads. I dont cook, but we all DJ, Jane says. There is no feast without the fun.
