Boss 'Em AroundDiablo 4's next season will see Blizzard turn endgame boss encounters on their heads and give you their beefy powersYou've heard of using other classes' powers, and using the powers of enemies in Diablo 4. Soon, you'll be able to do a lot more.Image credit: Blizzard Entertainment. News by Sherif Saed Contributing Editor Published on March 10, 2025 Blizzard has officially detailed what we can expect from Diablo 4s next season. More specifically, what all players will be able to enjoy when patch 2.2.0 arrives, and what you can expect to see in the upcoming Public Test Realm (PTR).Firstly, PTR will be available March 11-18. Just like with past PTRs, this one is also limited to just PC on Battlenet. This means it wont be available on Steam, but Game Pass subscribers on PC will be able to play it.You can expect similar functionality in this test, too, such as the PTR boost and account copy features. All of which will be available from within the game after you log in. The exciting part, of course, is what youre actually going to be testing. To see this content please enable targeting cookies. The big new feature in patch 2.2.0 is the ability to make use of Boss Powers. Youll be able to capture these powers from defeated World, Event, and Endgame Bosses. 24 of those exist (one from each boss), and each one comes with two effects: Main and Modifier. The patch will introduce the new Power Slot, which is where youre going to slot these powers to enhance your build. The even more interesting news is that youll be able to mix and match, such as having one Main and three Modifiers active from different bosses at the same time.Similar to the Spirit Powers used by the Spiritborn class, the Main Boss Power you have equipped will dictate how your character plays, whereas the Modifiers will boost whats already there. Some powers are available to equip at any level, while others are limited to Torment difficulty levels. The throughline this season will culminate with the new rotating event: Apparition Incursion. As the name might suggest, this is the work of Belial, whose illusion magic has caused enemies to rise across Sanctuary. Bosses defeated within Apparition Incursions will too provide their powers to whomever defeats them. Theyve been broken into three tiers: Initiate, Greater, and Exalted. This denotes difficulty, as well as rewards.Initiates are Beast in the Ice, Grigoire, Lord Zir, Varshan, and Urivar. Greaters are Andariel, Duriel, and Harbringer of Hatred. The only current Exalted is Belial, Lord of Lies. Regardless of the boss tier, youll need to be Torment difficulty to fight any of them.As part of this overhaul, youll no longer need materials to summon the bosses. However, the reward you receive from defeating them wont be what it used to be. Instead, when a boss dies, theyre going to spawn a chest, which youre to need the aforementioned materials to open.Boss materials, however, have been simplified. Each boss now requires a Lair Boss Key to unlock their chest (called Hoard). Instead of mixing several items to create a lure, you just need the one. Finally, Boss Lairs now have unique map icons, which you can use to directly teleport to the fight after youve discovered them.Catch up on all the Boss Powers you can siphon, as well as all the new Legendary Aspects and Unique Aspects coming to the game with patch 2.2.0 on the official blog.
