The Nintendo Switch 2 reveal is coming up, but the Federal Communications Commission has seemingly revealed fresh details about the new console here's all we learnedTech11:03, 10 Mar 2025Updated 11:03, 10 Mar 2025The Switch 2 is tipped for a June releaseThe Nintendo Switch 2 is getting a full reveal in just a few weeks, and we're expecting the full reveal of the new console's release date, launch lineup, and pricing at a special Nintendo Direct on April 2.While we've had all manner of leaks and rumours, as we get closer to the big day, the information is starting to come thick and fast and this time it's coming the United States' Federal Communications Commission.New filings have confirmed a few updates for the Switch 2 which help it improve on its predecessor, but some questions remain about its overall power. Here's all we know so far. This is the Switch 2, but there's still plenty we don't know about it yetAs spotted by The Verge, the Switch 2 will be able to be charged via either the top or bottom USB-C ports (the former is new), and will support the Wi-Fi 6 standard with up to 80MHz of bandwidth, which is a step up from the first console's Wi-Fi 5.The Switch 2 is rated for a 15V power adapter, but a 20V adapter is also mentioned. This could suggest a more powerful charger for faster charging, or it could suggest the dock will draw more power for more demanding games. We reported last month that developers had mentioned the Switch 2 will have a much higher overhead for performance than the original console. One of the biggest issues with the first console was that it was running at maximum capacity, leaving little room for loading anything in the background. That led to slow loading times, and big performance drops that were particularly notable in third-party ports of games that were found on other systems. The potential for more power for developers can only be a good thing. For more on portable consoles and Nintendo's latest, be sure to check out why the Switch 2 doesn't have a confirmed Pokemon title yet, as well as Samsung's bendy concept for the future of handheld gaming.Article continues belowFor the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletters.
