The Joinand the Field table series, which includes the Field 7, Field 19, and the Field 39 tables, push the boundaries of hand blown glass, expanding on the possibilities of the storied material in furniture. SkLO specializes in handcrafted Czech lighting and objects, bringing a contemporary and fresh take to the industry. Designed in Northern California, sculptural forms and biomimetic design delineate strong shapes, celebrating the connections between materials and translucencies that exist in between. Layered, premium glass gives way to solid stone with a touch of metal in between, joining two unexpected materials with ease.Clusters of glass elements are suspended in space by a double-paneled brass bracket, all held up on three legs. Proportion is everything with the Field table, repetitive round modules nestling together to form an extruded top. The inherent limitations of handblown glass are many, but SkLO has reverse engineered the problem of size: the same modules can be used in a number of iterations, including creating accent tables (Field 7), side tables (Field 19), and coffee tables (Field 39).Frosted glass adds softness to the Field Table, matching the brushed brass finish on the tabletop. Ethereal, like the honeycomb of angels, light illuminates the modules gently, working in harmony to produce a stunning effect. Field creates a modular language that uses smaller pieces of glass to create large compositions much like the notes in a score of music, Karen Gilbert, partner at SkLO, shares. While systematic and structured, Field offers a lot of freedom, too. The possibilities are endless.Translucent glossy finishing adds a completely different feeling to the Field table, creating an elegant narrative between the distinct elements. Confident tension exists between textures and materials, which include brass and marble, as well as transparent and frosted glass finishes. Both Join and Field tables are like topographic maps, looking at contours of forms and shapes that are layered from near and far, Gilbert explains. We wanted to bring bold yet soothing colors to these artisanally crafted pieces. Field is available in three modern colors Olivin, Plum, and Smoke as well as a Clear Frosted version. This, along with four metal finishes and three different sizes, allows for flexibility in design, taking up as much or as little space as one desires.Photo: Beppe BrancatoThe Join table is best where the materials meet, a clever band of brass separating the stone base and glass top. The shadow of the stone looms like a mountain in repose, masked by the transparency of the glass ever so slightly. As we make our way up to the soft, rounded tabletop, values of shadow create intrigue by distorting the background.Join tables are available in two different sizes large and small and in three transparent glass colors Olivin, Plum, and Smoke with additional offerings of four finishes for the metal component.SkLO specializes in high-quality, Czech glass that elevates space and subverts expectations. They show us through so many of their products that much within glass has yet to be explored. Refined, unobtrusive, yet clever, were excited to see whats next.To learn more about the SkLO Join and Field tables, visit sklo.com.Photography by Tereza Valner, except where noted.
