Check out how we test and review games hereFollowing the release of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition back in 2015, Xbox scrapped a full graphical remake of Gears of War 2.Often billed as the best in the series, although Gears of War 3 is also epic, the awesome third-person co-op game was set to have its own graphical update on Xbox One.Gears of War 2: Ultimate EditionRevealed on Twitter by Gears of War: Ultimate Edition and Gears 4 environment artist Ayi Sanchez, Splash Damage and The Coalition were planning to completely remaster Gears of War 2 in its own Ultimate Edition.Sanchez shared an image and video of some material work they did for the scrapped remake. Revealing a fleshy material that likely would have decorated the inside of the Riftworm, the remake wouldve looked pretty spectacular.[I] did this 10 years ago now as part of a material test for a remaster of Gears of War 2 that never happened, the environment artist told fans on Twitter.Unfortunately it never happened. Dunno how much appeal Gears has nowaday. But I would love to see 2 remastered.If Gears of War 2 Ultimate Edition was released like its predecessor, fans wouldve likely had a full remaster of the games co-op campaign and its suite of multiplayer modes. Its not known if the game wouldve had its own version of Horde Mode to play through.With the cancellation of the second games remaster, it seems likely that Gears of War: Ultimate Edition didnt meet sales expectations for Xbox. Nevertheless, Microsoft still released four additional games in the series afterwards, Gears 4, Gears 5, Gears Pop and Gears Tactics.A new game in the series is also in active development right now Gears of War: E-Day.
