Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 was fantastic, so it's perhaps not all that surprising that Focus Entertainment and Saber Interactive are working on a sequelTech15:59, 14 Mar 2025Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is a fantastic shooter(Image: Saber Interactive)2024 was a great year for games, but one that might have flown under your radar is Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. If you didn't play the original, or had no skin in the Warhammer 40k universe, you could perhaps be forgiven for skipping it.Those who did give it a go, however, were rewarded with some of the most chaotic battles in any game of 2024, as players cut swathes through Tyranid swarms in gory fashion.Article continues belowIt's an easy recommendation in the Steam Spring Sale, which among a whole bunch of discounts has the game reduced on PC, and while the developers have committed to further updates it appears there's even more to come. Will it be Ultramarines again?(Image: Saber Interactive)While publishers often keep things close to their proverbial chests in gaming, Focus Entertainment and developer Saber Interactive have released a joint statement confirming a sequel is coming."We have been honored by the incredible response from fans following the launch of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. We will continue to support the game with exciting content and regular updates in the coming years. Today, we are thrilled to announce that the adventure will continue with Space Marine 3," said John Bert, Deputy CEO of Focus Entertainment Publishing in a press release.Expect even bigger battles, apparently(Image: Saber Interactive)"Players can look forward to an immersive campaign, a multiplayer mode, and innovations that will redefine the standards of third-person action games. Developed in close collaboration with Games Workshop, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3 will take the genre to new heights by introducing large-scale battles that are even more spectacular," Bert added. The promise of larger battles is particularly exciting given Space Marine 2 often features hundred of enemies on screen swarming over each other to sink their teeth into players."Space Marine 2 has proven to be a transformative game for Saber. It is the culmination of everything we have learned about game development in our 25 years in the business," Matthew Karch, CEO of Saber Interactive revealed."We are now starting to develop Space Marine 3, a game that carries with it tremendous expectations from our rapidly expanding fanbase. "Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 was a breakout success(Image: Saber Interactive)"While we will continue to support and grow the Space Marine 2 universe over the coming years, we will take all our learnings and apply them to an even bigger and more spectacular game for the third instalment. We view this as an opportunity to create a true love letter to the Warhammer 40.000 universe."Given the first game launched in 2011 (albeit from a different developer), here's hoping it doesn't take quite as long to get a sequel.Article continues belowFor more on PC gaming, be sure to check out the latest on how Assassin's Creed: Shadows will be Steam Deck Verified after all, as well as what it's like moving from console to PC.For the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletters.
