Failed/unsuccessful short-lived new IP you wish could have a second chance

Max|PayneMemberOct 27, 20179,470PortugalTalking about new original IPs that had one or two entries released but ultimately didn't have the success their creators wanted and have been shelved or forgotten for a good while now.My example would be 2012's Rage from id software.Following nearly 20 years of genre defining first person shooters and Doom 3, Rage was a large departure from their true and tried formula of rather linear corridor shooters, this time trying an open world game with vehicle combat and rpg elements. It was definitely an ambitious endeavour that had a healthy amount of hype behind it running up to release, such hype that even convinced me to pre-order it on Steam.Come release time and after sorting out the myriad technical problems it had at launch, I ended up finding it a disappointing game that I was still able to wring some enjoyment out of but ultimately not worth the hype behind it.It definitely needed extra time in the oven, for one and even then it would still be a technically compromised game due to having it run at 60fps on the PS360 generation of consoles. The game wasn't terrible but it was a letdown from id software's usual high standard of development.Oh, and it barely had an ending. All that said, and without having played Rage 2 (not developed by id soft), I sometimes still think about the game and wonder how it would have fared had id soft waited an extra year or two and released it for the PS4/XB1 instead and most importantly, how would current day id software handle the IP without their current tech.Probably not worth the effort for them but boy, do I wonder... Such a great game that was too niche for its own good.Oh well, at least we have the one, and that can't be taken away from us... So far...DisclaimerMemberOct 25, 201712,566DioField Chronicle.Doubt we'll ever see another, but it's a prime example of something that could benefit immensely from -- and was quality enough to deserve -- iteration. RTwP JRPGs aren't something we have enough of. The storytelling was also very bold in fun ways, if also messy or odd in others.steviestar3One Winged SlayerMemberJul 3, 20185,256D4SoapMemberOct 27, 201718,445Not so much new, but I am sad we won't get a sequel to midnight suns after it bombed (or an xmen focused game in that style)PyroGod help us the mods are making weekend threadsMemberJul 30, 201818,127United StatesRAGE is a good one OP.Would've loved for the sequel NOT to have tried to go into the "magenta wackiness" shit. Just double down on the FPS combat (no vehicle combat), tell a better story, a new post-apocalyptic city to wander around/do quests in and give us more factions. The first game was at its best when it was essentially a better playing Fallout 3.SoapboxMemberOct 28, 201732,737None of you bought Stranglehold. Not sure it really needs a revival - the post-apocalyptic environment is played out nowadays - but I wish it got a sequel back in early 2010s just to iterate on the concept a bit.AldzDrakulMemberOct 28, 201756Psi-Ops Mindgate Conspiracy in the PS2 era was something that would have been really good in the modern age. It was such a cool setting/world, comfortably fantasy but with a lot of its own unique flavor. I don't even need another MMO, I just want more games with Olthoi and virindi.GigglepooMemberOct 25, 201710,577mudron said:Beetle Adventure RacingBanjo Kazooie Nuts & BoltsClick to expand...Click to shrink...The branching paths in the new Mario Kart reminded me of the BAR courses.
