So... what's going on with Ken Levine's Judas?
despair Member Oct 27, 2017 119 the last thing I can find is this Polygon article from January talking about Levine giving an interview at the end of the year where they still thought "Judas is tentatively scheduled to arrive on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC sometime before March 31, 2025." and Take Two back in 2023 saying it'll definitely come out by then and they aren't afraid of delays. i don't think the game has actually been shown off in any way for over a year despite supposedly being so close to finished. there has not even been a single news update on the game's official website since last march. if it didn't make this date there's probably no way they release it near borderlands and gta. we're not seeing it anytime soon (if ever) are we ;_;  TapDancingFreak Member Dec 12, 2017 4,483 Charlotte, NC It looks so dated. Hoping the best for the devs   PucePikmin Member Apr 26, 2018 5,134 I'm going to guess some sort of scheduling thing related to GTA VI (holding it back so it can prop up late 2025 if GTA VI is delayed?) The game looked basically done, I don't think development is the issue.   Architect1 Member Apr 17, 2023 22 Anyone who worked at Irrational Games probably knows exactly what is up with Judas lol   BUNTING1243 Member Oct 25, 2017 3,258 ken levine is a low interest rates phenomenon   hasher Member Oct 10, 2020 896 I wouldn't be surprised if it never sees the light of day.   Sire Red Member Feb 11, 2025 80 France Guess we'll have to call a Priest on Judas   Swiggins was promised a tag Member Apr 10, 2018 12,455 Sire Red said: Guess we'll have to call a Priest on Judas Click to expand... You're Breaking the Law with this one   Slackerchan Member Oct 25, 2017 1,682 Austin, TX From my uneducated, best-guess opinion, it'll be out this fiscal year if it ever comes out, probably after GTA 6 hits. I don't think Take Two is going to let them delay it past FY26, they've become too demanding of revenue targets to let developers under their wing really work on unique or lower-performing titles (I'm looking at you, Firaxis). The marketing blitz they did this time last year with press demos were already said to be playtests but according to the sites I checked that participated, it seems that they were doing well and could be close.   Z-Brownie Member Nov 6, 2017 4,282 I guess Levine is doing what Levine do ... rework games for a decade until it's on his terms of "done".   JigglesBunny Prophet of Truth Avenger Oct 27, 2017 35,639 Chicago Same thing that happens with all Ken Levine joints. He's hemming and hawing about the color of the player character's fingernails for hours at a time while his team begs him for some sort of direction, then he throws out all of the work they've done over the last six months because he was feeling peckish and there weren't any green M&Ms in the candy dish on his desk. Don't worry though, he'll choose a release date eventually and drill the entire team to put in 70 hour work weeks in the six months leading up to release so he'll have something technically playable, and it'll traffic in solid 9/10 reviews.  Fisty Member Oct 25, 2017 22,274 Get Rod Fergusson in the phone, we need to ship a game lol I'd imagine Judas is make-or-break for Levine, along with being a new IP and scoping out their tech side for iterative sequels, means probably an extended run up to Judas 1 that if successful could allow faster sequels. If you blow it on the first game, there's no chance for the IP and Levine probably won't even be able to fund an endless runner on iOS  Greywaren Member Jul 16, 2019 12,633 Spain Last thing I heard, everything about that development process was a bit of a mess, so I wouldn't expect it any time soon.   TapDancingFreak Member Dec 12, 2017 4,483 Charlotte, NC BUNTING1243 said: ken levine is a low interest rates phenomenon Click to expand... I don't have a ton of insight beyond being aware of multiple people hired in the past couple of years who've indicated very soft affirmations of the game's continued development and forward trajectory. These ppl have given no indication of the game's completion % or release plans.   Roxas The Fallen Oct 28, 2017 4,715 Buenos Aires, Argentina The sheer idea that we might get Half Life 3 before Judas is insane. I can't help but wonder that, even if this game were to come out and be amazing, would it be as relevant now? The games industry is in such a different place than it was in 2013. Looking at Dragon Age: Veilguard flopping makes me worry for general awareness of Judas despite Take-Two being the publisher.  SolidSnakex Member Oct 25, 2017 27,406 Roxas said: The sheer idea that we might get Half Life 3 before Judas is insane. Click to shrink... The press getting hands-on time is interesting because from what I remember they only got to play Infinite a few months before it was released. Which would've meant that they were playing a part of the game that'd actually ship rather than the infamous E3 demo. But it sounds like Judas isn't even close to being done, so what the press may have played something that won't even exist in the game by the time it ships.  Clippy Member Feb 11, 2022 3,503 jschreier said: Can't believe I didn't read this till now. AVALANCHE Member Oct 10, 2021 3,488 the planet Zebes I really loved Bioshock, but that one idea was clearly all he had. Major corporations have this issue where they confuse the product made by a massive team to be the creative genius of a single individual. They do exist, but Levine is just not that guy. Great directors are either amazing managers, or talented creatives, but usually not both. Levine doesn't seem like he's either. My prediction is that this game (whenever it releases) will either be mid, or if interesting will still be filled with tropes. Hope I'm wrong tho!  Sande Member Oct 25, 2017 7,080 I'm not surprised it's in trouble, but I'm surprised it got such a push year-ish ago. It even got an early 2025 release window iirc. It'll be ready when it's ready. It's nice that they have the opportunity to make something without the often extreme time constraints that other games are under.  HellofaMouse Member Oct 27, 2017 8,229 jschreier said: they did a round of previews just last year though, which made me think the games getting close to being done   Hero_of_the_Day Avenger Oct 27, 2017 19,537 Alek said: I don't really understand why people are so keen to be critical just because they can't seem to ship a game. I had been a BioShock Infinite defender (I think it's fun! Play it on hard.) but at this point I'm not really interested in what he does next. Especially since it looks like another game riding the BioShock wave from 18 years ago.   Jibberhack Member Oct 30, 2017 1,274 Ngl, the trailer for the game suggests that it's further along than I remembered, unless a lot of that is smoke and mirrors. It honestly could be delayed because game development goes that way sometimes. (See Fable)   ETPC Member Jan 28, 2025 16 Genuinely feel like this medium has grown far past a need for games directed by Ken Levine.   Alek Games User Researcher Verified Oct 28, 2017 9,701 Hero_of_the_Day said: Fixed that for you. Click to expand... Click to shrink... Yeah very clever. And even if that were the case, so what? People act like they're entitled to the output. It's okay if they take a long time to ship. It's okay if they don't ship. It doesn't make Ken or the people that work there terrible people, bad developers, or anything like that. I assume he obviously wanted a scenario where he could take much more creative risk and creative control, and with that risk, carries serious implications on development timelines. My advice would be to just let them get on with it, and if/when they ship a game. Great. As others point out, they had previews for the game last year, so it definitely doesn't seem like it's not coming out. If it's previewing then it's in late stage production, beyond the point where you tend to see things like vision/creative pivots that tend to upend games.
