Why won't they put any of the mainline Pokemon games on NSO?

It's not like Pokemon hasn't been on these services, plenty of games have been such as Pokemon Snap and Puzzle League etc.
But yet, they won't put any of the mainline games on the service for some bizarre reason.
Like Generation 1 and 2 not being on GB NSO is so odd since they're such iconic Game Boy games.
Also, it would be nice to put the Gen 1 remakes on GBA NSO because those games aren't exactly cheap these days.
Actually, every mainline Pokemon game and their remakes tend to go up in value.
Is it Game Freak doing this?

The question is not "will they?", it is "when will they?"
It will happen, it just has not happened yet

They would probably feel obligated to create some sort of trading/storing/transferring infrastructure and don't want to have to do that.

Probably think they hold too much value to put them in a subscription when they could:
a) remake them at some point in the future
b) release the originals as a separate purchase, either in a collection like the yugioh thing that has a bunch of GBA games or separately

They're counting on selling re-releases like Alpha Sapphire/Heart Gold/Let's Go Eevee instead of giving the games for free.
Also people would probably want all the games to connect to a Pokebank and that's not gonna happen.

I think they'll sell them separately or behind and additional subscription tier.

The day they put Pokemon Red/Blue there is the day I will, for the first time ever, subscribe to NSO.

I don't think you need that for GB games.

They sold the Kanto games in the 3DS eShop, I'm assuming they would prefer to do that but NSO set a precedence for just providing them for "free".
That or just wanting to do more remakes whenever they circle back.

Remakes for more money.
Also, do we know if Colosseum or Pale of Darkness will have HOME support?

TPC likely wants Pokémon Home integration & not being able to do cloud saves or rewinds.

It comes with the base sub, you don't need the expansion pass though.

If they ever get around to releasing them on Switch, it'll be as separate titles or under a Pokémon app with individual purchases.

Is there a way you can buy the games directly from Nintendo/TPC through any of their physical/virtual stores?
The Switch is almost 9 years old and they're not available. Only Gens 1&4 have a remake available on the platform. Is money really the reason?

Not only are most remakes not available on Nintendo's active platform, but the GameFreak leak suggests that they no longer have direct remakes in the pipeline

Just gonna throw this out there to everyone saying it's so they can sell remakes.
They also aren't doing that.
And as a counterpoint to that question, i pose this question. Why have they put so many mainline Zelda games on NSO instead of doing remakes?
The only things I can come up with that make sense is either they don't want to or can't deal with trading, or they think that releasing them would hurt the sales of new Pokémon games particularly badly, because of the nature of the monster collecting gameplay.

I assume they won't do it without Home support and they don't want to bother doing Home support yet

The 3DS VC versions had save states disabled, right? They probably don't want to allow people to save scum or rewind them, so they won't bother with putting them on there.

Pokemon Colosseum being one of the first games confirmed for NSO Gamecube is real bizarre, because it is like half of a game without the Ruby/Sapphire connectivity.
But I suppose, that did not stop them from putting Pokemon Stadium on the service.

Though we also have LA both on NSO AND as a remake. But then it could be a difference between Nintendo vs Game Freak. Honestly there's no way to know who's making the call and for what reason.

I think they want to use it to drive Home subscriptions. Maybe it comes out alongside that battler mobile game.

It is not when will they.
Just like TPC evidently blocked them from releasing the GBA Pokémon RPGs on the Wii U VC, it's not a decision that is ultimately up to Nintendo.
TPC are probably unwilling to sign away the games in perpetuity forever for a pittance of a NSO subscription. If anything they're much more likely to want to have the entire pie to themselves and make it part of the Pokémon home sub

I bet it's going to be it's own service that you have to pay for.
It will include Pokemon Home and several classic Pokémon Games.

What about Colosseum and Gale of Darkness? You could transfer out of those on GC

At this point I'd rather they release a remastered collection that includes in-game events and stuff like that. I'm not sure I can see them being released as part of a subscription service anyways

It's a matter of the brand, they want Home connection, and they absolutely don't want features like rewinding to do things like hunt for certain mons or shiny hunt. They want you to buy the new games like good customers.

I've become convinced it's because they can't connect them to the newer games/Home. As others have pointed out. But this is an annoyance in my life. I'm dying to play Crystal. Have been for years now.
Let me play the damn game Nintendo

I think it's technical/worry about the potential of save states messing things up for Pokémon Home. And they need to figure that out.
I do wonder if Pokémon Colosseum and XD are testing grounds though.
Going to be honest, I've been wondering if Animal Crossing will be MIA for a bit for similar reasons.

Ain't no way they're gonna give the main line games away for free with NSO.
So they're probably trying to figure out if a separate subscription tier would work - or just straight up make them purchasable instead. My bets are on RBY happening next year for their 30th anniversary

Going once again for RBY would be so boring at this point and everyone wouldn't give a shit, they should offer FRGL or RSE

Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee are probably reason enough in Game Freak's eyes not to put game boy or the GBA remakes on NSO.

It might conflict with the interests of GameFreak and Creatures Inc?
The rights for pokemon are relatively complex

It's strange to see people saying trading or integrating with Home would be issues considering the 3DS VC versions had both iirc and disabled save states.
It's also not because they want to remake the games. Again, these games were available on 3DS.
I think it's simply that they don't need to spend the time doing it. Maybe if the service starts to lag in subs or they need to add value to the service, then maybe they would.

Because they're going to release an entirely separate NSO app that is just for mainline Pokemon games and it will be exclusive to a new third tier of the service.

I could see them looking at it the same way Nintendo seems to look at the older Smash Bros games, thinking it would cannibalize the modern games' sales.
But also it could have to do with the gambling mini games and European ratings regulations.

I mean, that's like saying having the previous 3D Marios and Zeldas would cannibalize the sales of new Mario and Zelda games.

The old games are significantly better than the new games and it makes no business sense to make them available on a relatively cheap subscription service while trying to push the worse games at 20fps with 3DS era assets for $80.

Probably has to do with needing to implement trading and transferring Pokemon to Home, and they just don't wanna bother with it

Because without full Home integration it's boring.
The Stadium games are already pretty bad since you can only use rentals.

Can't they really just release them on NSO and not let Pokemon Home hold the possibility of ports hostage? I just want to play the games, as do many.
