I posted this over in the EtcetEra Forum but I figured I would post it here too
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-04-12/trump-exempts-phones-computers-chips-from-reciprocal-tariffs
President Donald Trump's administration exempted smartphones, computers and other electronics from its so-called reciprocal tariffs, potentially cushioning consumers from sticker shock while benefiting electronics giants including Apple Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co.
The exclusions, published late Friday by US Customs and Border Protection, narrow the scope of the levies by excluding the products from Trump's 125% China tariff and his baseline 10% global tariff on nearly all other countries.

Unfortunately consoles are not on this list, so they will still be subject to 10% or 145% tariffs depending on whether they are produced in China or elsewhere
(GPUs are also missing) seems like GPUs are exempted too

So exemption will gradually roll out in proportions to million dollar dinner invitations by CEOs?

Trump is mailable. I wouldn't put any thought into what is still on the tariff table.

GPUs are already exempt now, although I wouldn't be surprised if game consoles are next.

Is that confirmed? There was confusion on whether they are actually exempt or not from the previous guidance

Soon, we'll have the Switch 2 rebranded as the "Nintendo Xperience", a tablet which offer a new type of experience, with games included, totally not a videogame console; alongside its AI (Amiibo Intelligent) companion.

not sure how this is even a question at this point. YES, yes we are, this is like the 500th example since he took office.
Blatantly corrupt ones too. Part of the terms of Vietnam's agreement which reduced tariffs on them was favorable terms for Starlink specifically, one of Musk's projects. We're being run by a combination of Biff Tannen and Tony Soprano, but senile

Dude has created a clown show. Wasting so much time and energy with this tariff nonsense when it's full of exemptions. Remove the entire thing and stop wasting ppls time and money.

It's ran by rent seekers with some dashes of corporate capture at the moment, yes.
For extra fun, just know that the US has the best macro economic university institutions and researchers in the world.

What an absolute loser. Those Yanks sure know how to pick em.
Idk anything about finance but I keep reading this bonds thing has them spooked and so everyday we're gonna see them pare back the tariffs until it basically becomes nothing eventually?

Yes, the whole point is to strong arm Nations/ companies into doing what he wants. Except I'm pretty this is having the reverse effect and he's blinking once he notices the damage that is being done.

I'm kind of confused, if most of the parts making up a game console are exempt than how would a game console be charged the full tariff? Aren't products charged by the components they use?

I'm curious if this means we'll just see an assembly plant in the US. All the components shipped in from overseas, and a small number of low paid staff putting them together.

Me thinks the ESA can have game consoles specified by a phone call. Doesn't really make any sense to exempt computers and not something like a PS5 when they're basically designed the exact same way

Doesn't it depend on what is being imported? A completed console has its own HTSUS category, vs these components are being imported by themselves not as a component of a product

By capitulate, someone will drop the bag of money in the right spot and consoles will be exempt too.
He's a mafia leader. Everything is about paying the extortion fee or he'll end you.
There was a thread in the PC Gaming reddit the other day. A party at Mar Largo where it cost a million dollars to attend. Jensen was at that party. And "coincidentally" enough, the AI restrictions on China were lifted and Nvidia was unfucked. I wonder how many people attended that party. 200 people and Shitstain made 200 million (plus whatever bags were dropped off).

Time for Sony to pull a ps3 and add Linux support, printer support and call the PS5 a pc so it can have cheaper tax again.

You joke, but I wonder where, legally, the distinction lies. Why *isn't* the Switch, fundamentally, a tablet?
