Started this years ago but ran like shit on old xbox, restarted for a WOFF play along and beat it in ~3 hours? Found some of the secret stuff but being blind in one eye made the constillation stuff hell. Game was a bit smug and a bit to safe/Portal like, though a few parts were good. The ending didnt pay off like the devs probably wanted it to, but maybe im cynical. 3 Mar 11th - Indika, bought it awhile ago, but played it this week cause it will be on WOFF. Minecraft: Story Mode - Season 1 - for someone like myself who cares so little for Minecraft but loves Telltale Games this was surprisingly fun! Shame it's been delisted since some time back. Soma - what the HELL was that? The game was incredible but what the hell was that ending? It broke me hard - I hated how bleak the ending was that it actually left a sour taste in my mouth. This is the bleakest game I've ever played. Sonic and the Secret Rings - huge Sonic fan here and I've decided to play through all the games I've missed since a few years ago and this one was a nightmare to finish to be honest. I feel the Wii, as revolutionary as it was, had a lot of issues with motion control, and this game, a runner, felt like a nightmare to control at times. I enjoyed bits and pieces and some of the levels, but for any Sonic fan curious about this, don't bother. Famicom Detective Stories: The Girl that Stands Behind - ok this was a nice visual novel from Nintendo, I'm glad they're localising these now. Lovely art and creepy atmosphere in parts, but I can't help but feel it's nowhere near the potential it had as a "horror" themed story. The music while nice takes away from the fear factor and mystery, and I wish it had a little more "gameplay. Still, a fun visual novel for fans of the genre. Batman - Arkham VR - a short but really sweet interactive experience on the PSVR1. I wish I could access the new Arkham Shadow game on another platform (I don't want to buy the meta quest for literally the one game). I keep track of everything I play, so it should be easy to keep updating it every so often! 1) Slay the Princess: The Pristine Cut (January 1st) - PC If the base game was already extraordinary, this makes it even better. A completely unique narrative adventure, wonderfully written and illustrated and with a ton of truly memorable moments. It's best to play it without knowing too much and STRONGLY recommended even if you don't usually like (slightly) scary games. A masterpiece. 2) Metal Slug Tactics (January 5th) - PC A very solid turn-based tactics game that is unfortunately tied to a slightly frustrating roguelite progression system. It has a lot of unique and fun mechanics (focusing on movement instead of cover is great!), but the runs are a bit too long and they don't properly reward you for the time you've spent on them, so it feels like you're progressing too slow. Would've been better as a more linear experience, but it's a fun game nonetheless. 3) Venba (January 11th) - PC Really short, but very nice and effective. It integrates its cooking "puzzles" pretty well within the story and, even though it may have benefitted from dedicating a bit more time to some parts of it, it works really well as it is. It's not hard, but the puzzles make you think and the themes of connecting with your family and your roots through cooking were beautifully explored. 4) Beneath Oresa (16th January) - PC A promising deckbuilder roguelite with a very cool presentation that sadly ends up being a bit underwhelming. It's buggy, it's poorly balanced, there's not enough variety for it to be interesting after a handful of runs, and there's seemingly only one way to play "properly", which kinda defeats the purpose of it being a deckbuilder. There are some nice ideas and mechanics in there, but it's a bit messy at the moment. 5) Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (28th January) - PC An outstanding adventure from beginning to end. It constantly feels like you're inside an Indiana Jones movie, from the insane setpieces to the more paused exploration and puzzle-solving. Fantastic performances from every cast member, gorgeous environments to explore and they absolutely nailed the tone and the feel of everything. I loved it so much. 6) Dragon Age: The Veilguard (1st February) - PC A really solid ARPG with great character moments, satisfying combat and one of the greatest third acts BioWare has ever made. You can tell it went through development hell at some points, but it's nothing short of a miracle that it ended up being actually good despite all that. My only gripes with it are that it'd benefit from having more enemy variety, but other than that, I really loved my time with it. 7) The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom (3rd February) - Switch A fun twist on the classic 2D Zelda formula. It gives you a lot of tools to handle dungeon puzzles, fights and overworld exploration and you can be as creative as you want with it. Some tools are much more useful than others, which means the game can become a bit repetitive, but it's mostly a really fun time. And it's about time Zelda got her own game! 8) BAKERU (16th February) - PC A very simple platformer/collectathon with surprisingly great level design and fantastic game feel. A really cool, creative journey through every region of Japan that just straight up feels great to play. It's charming, it looks really nice and it's simple, straightforward fun all the way through. I'm glad I found out about it, because it wasn't on my radar at all until very recently. 9) Arco (17th February) - PC Yet another "where did this come from?" game. A very unique blend of real-time and turn-based combat with a well written tale of vengeance, RPG elements and a very interesting setting. Some minor UI gripes aside, I've really enjoyed my time with it and I hope more people give it a shot. It's genuinely great. 10) Against the Storm (9th March) - PC An outstanding citybuilder that shouldn't work as well as it does as a roguelite, and yet here we are. Deceptively simple to learn, unbelievably deep once you start getting into the meat of it. All of its systems work wonderfully together to make a very satisfying and unique experience unlike anything else I've ever played before. I loved it so much. 11) Ace Attorney Investigations 2: Prosecutor's Gambit (12th March) - Switch Easily one of the most brilliant entries in the series. Great mysteries and twists, a wonderfully written cast of characters and an overarching story that blows up in an insane finale. I'm so glad this was finally made available outside of Japan and that I finally managed to play through every single game in the series. Now bring on Ace Attorney 7, Capcom! 12) Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector (13th March) - PC A wonderful sequel to the original that goes even further with its themes, mechanics and ideas. It's wonderfully written and it still feels as fresh and unique as the first game despite being more of the same, but with a handful of extra features. A truly gorgeous story that I strongly recommend to anyone who enjoys sci-fi stuff. 13) Eternal Strands (16th March) - PC A really ambitious game that wants to be so much more than it manages to be. It has some very good ideas and the gameplay loop is mostly a lot of fun, but a noticeable lack of resources stops it from being truly great. Fighting the big monsters is great, the crafting system is very unique and the voice acting is excellent, but everything else is just okay. Still, a very promising first project for a new studio! 14) Monster Hunter Wilds (24th March) - PC Yet another insanely fun, spectacular, super satisfying entry in one of my favorite franchises of all time. More streamlined, less tedious and as much pure fun as always. The focus on the story is interesting, but I can understand why it would make some people annoyed. I personally really enjoyed it and now that I'm done with it, I'll keep it as a "background" game to keep hunting for many, many more hours. 15) SteamWorld Heist II (26th March) - PC A worthy sequel to the original that further expands its unique, very satisfying turn-based combat system by letting you make crazy skill combinations. It's a bit too long for its enemy/mission variety, but the game itself is so fun that you kinda forget about it. I'm very glad they've made a second one because there's quite literally nothing like SteamWorld Heist out there and it's a concept that deserved a second title. 16) Mario & Luigi: Brothership (30th March) - Switch Despite some glaring pacing issues, it's a pretty solid entry in the series. The presentation is great and it has a lot of charm (mostly thanks to the fantastic animation work), but it mostly shines through its combat system, which is arguably the best in the series thanks to the Power Plugs system. I had a good time with it, warts and all, and I hope this isn't the last Mario & Luigi game. 17) Sid Meier's Civilization VII (9th April) - PC Not really a game that can be "finished", but I've played two full campaigns and I feel like I've seen enough to properly talk about it. It's got very, very good bones, and it's a bold new direction for the franchise, but it's clearly unfinished. Most of the gameplay changes are very good and interesting, but the UI is so bad and cheap it makes the game feel worse than it actually is. If they manage to fix it, I'll for sure revisit it to play some more. 18) Wanderstop (12th April) - PC A little, very interesting game about change, taking a break, and brewing tea to satisfy the outlandish needs of a quirky cast of characters. It works relatively well as a cozy game, but what really shines is the writing. It's clever, witty, hilarious at times, but also very emotional and intense at times.
