Nintendo Switch controllers won’t be able to wake up Switch 2 from sleep mode
Phyre Member Jan 24, 2025 106 Apologies if this info was already widely known. You cannot exit sleep mode on Nintendo Switch 2 using the HOME Button on Nintendo Switch controllers such as Joy-Con and Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. Click to expand... Click to shrink... Transferring to Nintendo Switch 2 If you're a Nintendo Switch owner, find out how compatible games and accessories work on Nintendo Switch 2, and how to transfer over. www.nintendo.com Nice to have confirmation that controllers for Switch 1 will work on S2, but it sucks a little that you can't turn it on with the Switch 1 controller. Not a huge deal by any means but a mild inconvenience.  Mauricio_Magus Member Oct 25, 2017 15,529 I've never cared about this... like... please just stand up and press the damn button jfc. But it's nice to know. I'm also one of those guys that always turns off all his systems and basically never uses sleep mode unless I'm in the middle of something and I can't save the game or something. I have an 8bitdo controller that wakes up Switch when I shake it which I find funny more than useful. Edit: I've just realized that this could be an accessibility concern so I do feel bad for people that may struggle with that so I've changed my mind on this now because of that.  Last edited: 4 minutes ago Richietto One Winged Slayer Member Oct 25, 2017 25,726 North Carolina Not a big deal at all but I wonder why thats the case.   Lotus One Winged Slayer Member Oct 25, 2017 122,477 It was pointed out, but yea, good to have a thread on it I consider that the type of annoyance that will eventually bug the hell out of me, so guess I'm buying a new Pro controller at some point  Porygon One Winged Slayer Member Oct 25, 2017 4,609 Mexicali I'm not planning on using Switch 1 controllers on 2, but this is stupid   L Thammy Spacenoid Member Oct 25, 2017 54,410 I use 8bitdo controllers so I couldn't do this anyway.   Mattmo831 Featuring Mattmo831 from the Apple v Epic case Member Oct 26, 2020 6,361 They will if you throw it very accurately at the power button   tobes231 Prophet of Truth Member Jul 10, 2019 637 Australia Mauricio_Magus said: I've never cared about this... like... please just stand up and press the damn button jfc. I wonder what the tech reason behind it is   Zyrokai Member Nov 1, 2017 5,120 Columbus, Ohio We've known this since the week of the Direct. Not a big deal, imo. Glad they're still compatible. This thread could read "Switch 1 Pro Controllers won't work with Switch 2" then we'd have something to discuss.   Mauricio_Magus Member Oct 25, 2017 15,529 tobes231 said: I'm all for people getting a few more daily steps in, but come on now haha. But yeah I can see how this can be annoying if you're already sitting and then you have to get up to turn it on. I've just never found it to be a personal issue I guess. Because it's the kind of annoyance that will make person spend the 80 bucks so that they don't have to get up.   Captain of Outer Space Come Sale Away With Me Member Oct 28, 2017 14,041 That's been the case for third-party controllers on Switch, so it's not surprising that they wouldn't allow non-Switch 2 native controllers to do that on Switch 2.   Busaiku Teyvat Traveler Member Oct 25, 2017 17,288 tobes231 said: I'm all for people getting a few more daily steps in, but come on now haha. Unless it was stated elsewhere.  Derbel McDillet ▲ Legend ▲ Member Nov 23, 2022 22,939 At my desk, my consoles are right in front of me and I still use the controller to turn them off. Except for the Steam Deck which likes to be a pain, but that's another story. Not the worst the information, but good to know.  Kouriozan Member Oct 25, 2017 24,331 Even the Pro 1 can have some issue waking up the Switch 1, sometime I have to hold the button 3 times in a row. I heard about some bluetooth thing happening and that's why 3rd parties controllers won't do it either.
