[VGC] ‘Nintendo is losing their identity’: Shuhei Yoshida says Switch 2’s focus on power is what other companies would do
--R Being sued right now, please help me find a lawyer Member Oct 25, 2017 15,255 In an interview with Easy Allies, Yoshida was asked what he thought about Nintendo's Switch 2 Direct, and he replied that he thought it was a departure from the level of innovation typically expected of Nintendo when it comes to new hardware. "To me it was a bit [of a] mixed message from Nintendo," Yoshida explained. "In a sense, I think Nintendo is losing their identity, in my opinion. For me they are always about creating some new experience, like designing hardware and games together to create something, [an] amazing new experience. Click to expand... Click to shrink... "But Switch 2, as we all anticipated, is a better Switch, right? It's the larger screen, more powerful processor, higher resolution, 4K 120fps. They even had a hardware person starting the stream, like other platforms do, right? "And because it's a better Switch, the core premise of the whole Switch 2 is 'we made things better', and that's something other companies have been doing all the time." Yoshida added that while the idea of a Switch with more powerful is undeniably a good thing because it enables certain third-party series to arrive on Nintendo hardware for the first time, he feels this is less of an enticing prospect for players who have multiple consoles and have already played those games. "Of course it's a more powerful Switch, so it's great if your gaming was only on Nintendo hardware, [and] it's the first time for you to be able to play amazing games like Elden Ring for the first time," he explained. "But for us, the 'core' gamers who own multiple hardware and play games on PlayStation, Xbox, PC, the games they showed off, especially from third parties – in theory, it's amazing to have all these all-stars of industry games on Nintendo hardware – however, what they showed was like… 'ooh'." But Switch 2 is just a portable PS4   Amnixia ▲ Legend ▲ The Fallen Jan 25, 2018 11,664 Say it with me children: "Nintendo has done iterative hardware upgrades before" NES > SNES > N64 > GC Wii > Wii U GB > GBC > GBA DS > 3DS  cw_sasuke Member Oct 27, 2017 29,653 All these old Sony execs have a lot to say about the Switch 2. People asked for years for a better Switch, now its an issue lol. Everyone in the industry is working or planning towards Switch like device - bei it MS, Sony or whoever. But Nintendo doing what they been doing since the 80s with portable devices is an issue. Edit. Also you dont benefit from a stronger Switch making games like MK Wild or Prime 4k/60 possible.....because you own a Xbox or Playstation ? Not really sure what he is talking about.  RPGsandFGCs Member Jun 30, 2024 689 California The Wii has caused incalculable damage to the psyche of this industry.   FantasticToma Member Sep 21, 2024 1,837 Germany Mouse controllers ... Still the best gaming handheld (sleek, silent) ... Still the best hybrid console ... And their 2 biggest 1st-party-games show major new, creative ideas ...  ConflictResolver Member Jan 1, 2024 4,142 Midgar I wonder if they could have leaned into a different gimmick since that was their thing. DS the 2 screens, one touch, Wii the motion, 3DS the no glasses 3D, WiiU the handheld touchscreen, Switch the handheld/TV hybrid. Maybe they could have gone for really really advanced haptics that blow the PS5 haptics out the water? Maybe bring back glasses-less 3D? FantasticToma said: Mouse controllers ..... Click to expand... Yes, it's more powerful than original Switch, which is a normal thing for a new console 8 years after previous one, but I don't call it "focus on power" when the console is similar or a little better than 2013 hardware. Nintendo has not signed by blood to make a completely different hardware each generation! They had a super popular console and now a great successor with some new features. But some people talk about it like Nintendo did a big crime!  Red Kong XIX Member Oct 11, 2020 12,880 Disagree. The Switch 2 is the right move.   pswii60 Member Oct 27, 2017 28,629 The Milky Way Switch was actually a huge regression from what came before. It's just a more powerful 3DS but without the 3D and even requires you to have your own second screen, instead of having it built in, and you can't even use that simultaneously. And it's pretty big compared to the 3DS too.  Agni Kai Member Nov 2, 2017 9,781 I'm calling bullshit on this. There are no indications Nintendo has lost their identity. Anyone who thinks otherwise should meet me behind the school's library for a friendly talk.   Meelow Uncle Works at Nintendo Member Oct 31, 2017 9,896 The thing is if Nintendo decided to do a Switch U and not a Switch 2 people would have complained that it's to different from the Switch, in this situation its damned if you do, damned if you don't.   Tiny Chihuahueño Member Oct 27, 2017 5,836 Miyamoto_whatthefuckdoyouthibkyouwant.jpg Nintendo is always wrong for some reason.  Aero Member Oct 27, 2017 3,944 Nintendo are damned if they do, damned if they don't. If the Switch 2 was some entirely new gimmick people would be complaining about them fixing what isn't broken and it being underpowered.  JayCB64 Member Oct 25, 2017 11,373 Wales Not sure I agree with this at all. Like, you want the Nintendo flavor? They added a mouse mode to the system and one of the first things they decided to do with it was using two of them in conjunction to imitate controlling a wheelchair.   pbayne Corrupted by Vengeance Member Oct 27, 2017 11,023 dont understand isn't still considered a few steps below ps5/xbox you cant reinvent the wheel with every console
