Here's Why Bungie's Extraction Shooter Marathon Won't Be Free To PlayBungie's upcoming team-based extraction shooter, Marathon, has received a five-minute gameplay review trailer that offers fans and potential buyers a deep look at its core mechanics and concepts. However, one factor that might influence players' decisions about whether to purchase it is the price, which remains a mystery for now.@MarathonTheGame would be a "premium product" but not a "full-priced title," which is what the official Twitter account has to say about pricing. In the latest episode of The Friends Per Second Podcast, Game Director Joe Ziegler shed light on the decision why Marathon wouldn't be a free-to-play title (starting around the 31-minute mark)."We're hoping or we are aspiring that what we’re showing is exciting enough that someone is going to take the leap with us, but we are also committed to delivering on seasons past this that will continuously offer to evolve the game without an increase to the box price," Ziegler said. The team, which is passionate about the genre, has been focusing on the commitment "to making this a game that's really awesome" and they feel that the "starting point is really strong at this current time." He went on and concluded, "everyone's got their own definition of what is the right price ... we're hoping that we hit the right price that makes you feel it's worth your value."An earlier rumor said it'd be priced at $40, the same price as the now-defunct Concord. But we may have to wait until this summer, when developers are ready to share more details, to learn the cost of entering this extraction shooter. What is the price that you're willing to pay to try this game? Let us know.
