The company has come a long way, and its ambitious approach has led it to become one of the leading names in artificial intelligence. However, with Chinese tech rivals stepping in, the competition in the industry has intensified as each player is trying to make their mark. OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman appreciated Chinese startup DeepSeek's rapid growth and reasoning model but has pushed him to introduce even more noteworthy updates. The ChatGPT maker has now introduced two new AI models that are meant to handle complex and visual tasks. OpenAI has unveiled two new AI models that are focused on advanced reasoning, and the o3 model is being referred to as its most powerful one yet OpenAI has been promising users some major upgrades,, especially with Chinese players shaking things up in the industry. The company launched two new AI models yesterday that are meant to offer more advanced reasoning, something it has been working on for a while. The o3 model is said to be the company's most powerful reasoning model, and the o4-mini is a smaller yet faster alternative that is said to deliver impressive performance given the cost and the size of the model, as per the company's blog post. An interesting aspect about the new models is that they bring more efficiency and greater performance and have enhanced visual capabilities, as OpenAI described the tools as having the ability to even think with images. What this means is the tool would be able to take in sketches for their reasoning process, in addition to manipulating images to understand data visually. The new reasoning models would be able to offer more capabilities due to the full access to the suite of ChatGPT tools they would have. This includes generating images or even web browsing. The tools are available now for ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Team users who are either on the o3, o4-mini, or o4-mini-high models. Access to the more advanced o3-pro model will be extended in the coming weeks. Some of the older models, however, such as the o1 and o3-mini, would not be included in these plans as OpenAI plans to eventually phase them out so that it could create more room for new and better-performing models. OpenAI continues to evolve its AI offering, as earlier this week, it announced GPT-4.1, and now, with more advanced reasoning models, the company is pursuing its ambitious goals rapidly.
