Check out how we test and review games here The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is here, bringing players back to Cyrodil with a gorgeous new coat of paint. Alongside the new return to the 20-year-old Elder Scrolls game, Bethesda and Virtuos are also allegedly working on a remaster of Fallout 3 in Unreal Engine 5. After the reveal of Oblivion Remastered, we sat down with original Oblivion lead designer and Fallout 3 designer Bruce Nesmith to discuss Bethesda’s new remastering efforts. After expressing their adoration of the new Oblivion revival, Nesmith discussed what they would like to see from the upcoming Fallout 3 Remaster. Fallout 3 Remastered should change the gunplay Speaking to VideoGamer, Nesmith explained that he would like to see more of Fallout 4’s modernisations in the return to Fallout 3. While Nesmith has departed Bethesda to work on novels like Mischief Maker, the designer expects the upcoming remaster to bring the game’s gunplay more in line with Fallout 4. “What did you see in Fallout 4? That will tell you what they felt was necessary to change from Fallout 3,” Nesmith told VideoGamer. “I know in Fallout 4 there was a lot of work done on the gun combat, because Fallout 3 is the first time they ever tried to do a shooter-style game. And, well, I think the work that was done was amazing.” Nesmith explained that the original game’s gun combat is simply “not good”, and needs to be touched up a lot. With The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered adding hit reactions, better animations and other combat tweaks, Nesmith would be surprised if Fallout 3 Remastered doesn’t do the same for its gunplay. “[Fallout 3 combat] didn’t hold up to shooters at the time,” the legendary game designer said. “Also, it’s an RPG shooter, it’s not a run-and-gun shooter. But a lot of work was done on that for Fallout 4. So I anticipate seeing a lot of that work go into it, assuming they’re doing the same thing.” “Oblivion wasn’t just brought up to the 2011 version of Skyrim,” he continued. “It was brought up to something that, at least on the surface, looks like it exceeds the most recent graphics update in Skyrim.” Of course, Fallout 3 Remastered has not been officially revealed by Bethesda… although it was included in a list of upcoming titles leaked by Xbox’s FTC negotiations alongside the Oblivion Remaster. With the game expected to release in the next few years, fans of Bethesda RPGs are eating well… now if only Elder Scrolls 6 could release.
