Do People Generally Like Incline Sliding in Games?
Derbel McDillet ▲ Legend ▲ Member Nov 23, 2022 23,346 These were always my least favorite part of 3D Mario games. Seeing it more in Uncharted 4 (mostly harmless), Jedi Games (actively put me off the series) as of late and briefly today in Ghost of Yotei (looks harmless in there). View: https://youtu.be/RndMc6n7ky0?si=xGJlKFnzYbpHs6W3 As a reoccurring thing, I'm just wondering who this? Do people actually like it? Do people talk about these mechanics? What's making devs go, we need sliding?  Mirage Member Oct 25, 2017 10,322 Yes, it's a fun change of pace. These sections are usually not overly long either.   LoomianDev Member Apr 14, 2025 36 Why not sometimes?   Pendas Member Oct 28, 2017 6,476 I like when they're not too difficult and done as a fun set piece for spectacle.   Firima Member Oct 27, 2017 4,792 that video was painful to watch, and maybe not in a way that helps the argument. I don't mind them, I just dislike how telegraphed they are, like "oh, slightly steeper incline; lemme guess--oh, yep, there we go, I'm slidin'. I'm a slider now"  Aiqops Uncle Works at Nintendo Member Aug 3, 2021 18,967 Devs, just like us all yearn for SSX, but EA won't provide, so they try to fill the void in any way they can.   defaltoption Plug in a controller and enter the Konami code The Fallen Oct 27, 2017 12,286 Austin Sure I'll slide some inclines, it's fun enough as a change up for the few seconds it lasts.   Roubjon Member Oct 25, 2017 3,008 It was magical in Journey. But in most games I feel like its kinda dumb.   MadJosh04 Member Nov 9, 2022 2,529 I normally don't have issues with sliding sections. I usually find them to be thrilling. I haven't played the part of whatever Jedi game that was in the OP, but whoever was playing was pissing me off lol  Bear Member Oct 25, 2017 12,181 Yeah it's fun. I don't remember it being hard in Jedi.   BigHatSean Member Apr 21, 2025 2 In Xenoblade Chronicles, there was a sliding section in Valak Mountain over a pit. If you timed the jump at the end, you got to a different area, if you didn't time it well but still jumped, you ended up elsewhere (I might be wrong about this). I remember cracking up at the speed you picked up. But it was annoying. I can't say I like them much especially if the jump part feels stiff and scripted for the players safety. The dying part can be enjoyable imo. I really liked it in Mario and UC4, where it was often combined with jumps and grapple swings.  eXistor Member Oct 27, 2017 13,511 Sure, if it's done sparingly. Variety is always welcome.   Desma "This guy are sick" Member Oct 27, 2017 6,675 They are peak gaming for me   PucePikmin Member Apr 26, 2018 5,225 Yeah, actually. I almost always find slidey bits kinda fun.   Het_Nkik One Winged Slayer Member Oct 27, 2017 4,178 They're super fun when done right. Mario 64 slides are some of the most fun areas in the game.   ReticentRobot Member Apr 16, 2021 1,229   ChitonIV Member Nov 14, 2021 4,063 Derbel McDillet said: These were always my least favorite part of 3D Mario games. Tomb Raider 2014 has a few of them.  Sabot Saw the truth behind the copied door Member Oct 31, 2017 3,478 Good when it's a movement mechanic, bad when it's a level design gimmick that only appears when the dev wants it to happen. Sliding down a 3 foot decline and jumping out of it to maintain speed is what I crave.   EvilBoris Prophet of Truth - HDTVtest Verified Oct 29, 2017 17,962 Yah!   GungHo Member Nov 27, 2017 7,537 I didn't have near the problems as the person in that video with that section.   Hello Snake Member Nov 25, 2020 2,829 Canada I recently played some in Jedi Survivor and Jak & Daxter Precursor Legacy, I don't mind them at all. If Jak didn't have a rewind feature for when I missed a collectible on the way down then it might have been annoying.  Vincent Grayson Member Oct 27, 2017 7,198 Mount Airy, MD I don't usually mind it, but I swear there's so many inclines in the new Assassin's Creed that randomly are or aren't going to make you slide down them (mostly in the natural environment), and it drove me nuts until I gave up and just focused on using the paths most of the time.   HonestAbe Member May 19, 2020 2,143 You call it sliding. I've literally never thought about this before. I'm fine with it.  Dogui Member Oct 28, 2017 10,697 Brazil ReticentRobot said: Took me decades to be aware that you could kill enemies by sliding in Mario games lol  DontHateTheBacon Unshakable Resolve Member Oct 27, 2017 14,157 A sequence of it can be fun, more than that and it gets really annoying fast.   Shiz Padoo Member Oct 13, 2018 7,711 Love it! I played the Steel Seed demo yesterday and it was full of incline sliding.   Kirksplosion Member Aug 21, 2018 2,621 I don't have strong feelings about the mechanic, but they range from, "Hey, this is fun" to "This again?"
