However, he warns his audience beforehand to expect a delay, as he states that the home-grown SoC will be called ‘Xring.’ Previous reports mentioned that Xiaomi Xring will launch later this year, but it will not leverage TSMC’s second-generation 3nm process as the Snapdragon 8 Elite or Dimensity 9400 On Weibo, Fixed Focus Digital reveals that Xiaomi’s Xring will be announced on ‘May 2x,’ suggesting that the custom chipset could be unveiled on May 20 or later. The tipster does mention that the launch date is subject to change, meaning we should be mentally prepared to provide all details at a later time. While this post does not mention any of Xring’s specifications, it would have been unnecessary because Fixed Focus Digital already provided this information in a previous post. For those who forgot, Xiaomi is rumored to leverage TSMC’s 4nm ‘N4P’ process, though there have been claims stating that the Chinese firm’s chipset would be mass produced on the 3nm node, with a successful tape-out of the SoC reported about in late 2024. Unlike the Snapdragon 8 Elite, whose cluster comprises of in-house Oryon cores, Xring is said to feature ARM’s current CPU designs, with the fastest core being the Cortex-X925 operating at 3.20GHz. A possible reason why Xiaomi could have taken a backseat in introducing a 3nm chipset is that it will be highly costly, as the tape-out process alone can rack up a bill in the millions. However, there is the possibility that the company comes in front of the crosshairs of the Trump administration, with Xiaomi potentially suffering the same fate as Huawei, with sanctions bringing the company’s progress to a standstill. There is still a ton that we do not know about the Xiaomi Xring, and we sincerely hope that an official announcement transpires next month, as it will enable more competition in this space.
