Nintendo revealed, via email sent to the press, that the price of the Nintendo Switch 2 in Brazil is R$4,499.90. The device is scheduled to be released on June 5, the same date as the final release for other countries.
The package that will come with the device and the game Mario Kart World will have a suggested price of R$4,799.90; individually, the title will cost R$499.90, whether digital or physical.
Finally, Donkey Kong Bananza, another game exclusive to the device, had its suggested price set at R$439.90, both in physical and digital media. "Pre-sales in Brazilian retail for the Nintendo Switch 2 will begin soon in selected stores," says the statement.

499 for games seems ridiculous? Aren't PS5 games 350?

gg, like even region lock won't help it, because Brazil has a like those high import costs that cause these high prices right?

That's the same price as the Series X no? Also R$ 500 for a game is insane, it's like begging for piracy to grow.

Nintendo really is the "Apple" of the video gaming industry.
Are the prices due to Brazil still taxing imported video games heavily?

is this similar to Argentina, where Western publishers are just setting it to the 60/70$ equivalent to avoid cheap imports, without any care for the actual local market.
I wonder at that point why they even offer the games there if you set prices that 99% of your customers absolutely can't afford.

We need Steamdeck 2 and PS6 Portable sooner rather than later for some price competition.

Now I'm scared for what Chile's prices will ultimately be, as part of what made the Switch so popular here was how cheaper it was than the other consoles (CLP300000 vs CLP340000 for the Series S as the cheapest competition) but if it goes past CLP400000 it will start trading blows with the PS5 and it ain't winning that fight.

The Steam Deck is still hella niche & I doubt Nintendo sees it as competition (unless the Deck is available at Brazilian retailers, unlike most of the world). The PS6 Portable on the other hand, yeah, that'd be competition.

The game prices killed any chance Nintendo had in Brazil. Simple as that.
You can get the console cheaper in the grey market but i am not paying 500 for any Nintendo game, and i say this as someone who DREAMS of smash bros.

Exactly, what's the point of buying the console with those game prices? I would feel like the most irresponsible person in the world paying that with enough frequency to justify having the hardware

Holy shit. Wonder what the game official price will be on Colombia.
For context the PS5 at launch was more expensive than a Xbox Series X here but now it's cheaper, sometimes comparable and even cheaper than a Series S lol

You can get a new PS5 Slim Digital for 3/4 of what the Switch 2 will go for here.

Yeah, I'll not be able to afford one until at least 2030. And a second-hand unit at best. Best to just tune out of gaming news for the foreseeable future, and just play my backlog.

Oof. The Switch 1 is quite popular in Colombia, not as popular as a PS5 but still popular because it's really cheap.
If the SW2 is more expensive than a PS5 it's DOA here.

It's really bad, but I just don't understand the surprise, this is nothing new, anyone expecting anything better than this was setting themselves for disappointment. Video games are a expensive hobby everywhere, in Brazil (and in Latin America overall), they are a luxury product. Last year, the dollar price in Brazil reached its highest value in history (R$ 6,2672).
If we take MKW price conversion as a reference you have: $79.99 x R$6,2672 = R$501.31. Even though the dollar price is lower now, Nintendo definitely accounted that for the game prices calculation. And no, Nintendo don't care about regional pricing, they proved time and time again that they don't care about presence if they can't make money. If you complain, Mr. Bowser has a answer for you: buy a Switch 1. Again, it sucks, but it is what it is...

Insane game prices but it was expected since Nintendo doesn't do regional pricing. Nice timing for me to be moving to Europe cuz otherwise I don't think I'd be able to justify buying Switch 2 games, it's way too expensive compared to how much money the average person makes here a month.

Playstation and Xbox games are R$ 349,00. Nintendo was already charging R$ 50 more on the Switch 1 games. Now they're gonna add another R$ 40 to 100 more
It's crazy
