Ex-Rockstar dev says GTA 6 doesn't need a new trailer as fans reach fever pitch
Former GTA developer Obbe Vermeij has been reminiscing about his time working on GTA 4, but has suggested that Grand Theft Auto 6 might not even need a second trailerTech22:00, 29 Apr 2025If nothing else, a new trailer should give the fans more secrets to find(Image: Rockstar Games)When Grand Theft Auto 6 launches, it will have been 12 years since the last entry in the famous series. Before 2013's GTA 5 it was a five year gap from GTA 4 in 2008, and one developer on that project has previously suggested the decision about delaying GTA 6 will likely be made in the next few weeks. With Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two, holding its earnings call in just a few weeks, we should find out soon either way, but that same developer has now suggested that the game may not get a second trailer after all despite a recent YouTube update.Obbe Vermeij, who worked on GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas, as well as GTA 4, has been discussing his time on the 2008 game and alluding to the lack of Trailer 2 for GTA 6, too.Content cannot be displayed without consentPosting on X (formerly Twitter), Vermeij was reminiscing about GTA 4's launch 17 years ago today (April 29).Alongside development tidbits about why the Xbox 360 was the lead platform, and how missions were designed to suit the story, not the other way around, Vermeij comments on leaving the studio.Article continues below"I left R*North 9 months later," he revealed."With the project and team getting bigger I didn’t enjoy work as much as I used to. I also thought the game would continue to get darker and more serious. GTA 5 proved me wrong there."Suggesting Take-Two's earnings report in August could be the one with the answers, Vermeij explains he has no insider info on GTA 6, before turning his attention to the elusive second trailer. We've had our plane tickets to Vice City purchased for years(Image: Rockstar)"If it was my call I wouldn’t release any additional trailers," he said."There is more than enough hype around VI and the element of surprise is going to make the release only bigger as an event."One response suggested Rockstar putting out a release date and no further trailers would cause peoples heads to "explode", and Vermeij agreed, saying "It would be a boss move".We can see his point. With fans and media alike dissecting Trailer 1, there's every chance Rockstar just wants to keep as much as it can under wraps without ruining any of the surprises for when the game launches.Article continues belowFor more on GTA 6, be sure to check out the one thing I hope Rockstar fixes in the game when it does eventually launch. For the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletters.
