Diablo 4 developers name favourite 'fun and powerful' Season 8 boss powers
Jumping into Diablo 4 Season 8 today? We asked Colin Finer, Design Director for Systems and Deric Nunez, Lead Seasons Designer for the new update to tell us their favourite boss powersTech22:00, 29 Apr 2025Expect plenty of chaos in Season 8Diablo 4 is kicking off its Season 8 update, and one of the big new features this time around is boss powers, which can be worked into a player's build to augment their class abilities. With so many ferocious bosses to take from, I asked Colin Finer, Design Director for Systems and Deric Nunez, Lead Seasons Designer for Season 8, what their favourites were as part of a wider interview about the new season. From burrowing underground to launching plenty of bombs at the demons of Hell, I wasn't disappointed. Here are the best Season 8 boss powers for Diablo 4, according to the people who made them.Season 8's big focus is on using powers from bosses"I absolutely loved tinkering with Duriel Burrow," Nunez explains."That's when Duriel, the Maggot King, burrows into the ground and it was such a fun power throughout the course of development and testing."Article continues below"I love things that proc off of evasion, so having Duriel's ability to tunnel down, doing damage in along the way and then popping out, it's such a tactile and satisfying power to me.""The boss powers have really been designed in a way that can easily fit into any build," Finer adds."Lets say you play Rogue and last season, Dance of Knives is fantastically strong, right? In Season 8, there are multiple boss powers that can actually speak to that Dance of Knives build.""One of my favourites is the Wandering Death lasers," he reveals."So the Wandering Death is this big world boss and it rips its chest cage open and it fires death lasers. You can now take that power from the Wandering Death, and that laser will proc whenever you're channelling a skill."So you can imagine playing Dance of Knives and using the 'Death Laser' and just annihilating everything on the screen, and it really makes that build feel different and interesting."Diablo 4 Season 8 is all about the bosses"The other one I highly recommend is the Death Trap Rogue," he adds."Death Trap is Uravar's bombs, and if you beat him you take from him his ability to throw bombs, and these bombs are actually going to feed off your Ultimate and reduce its cooldown. So you're really able to just multi-Death Trap over and over and over, and it's just really fun and really powerful.""One of the coolest things in Season 8 is that every single power has a 'Side B' modifier side, Nunez explains."And you can equip up to three of those, and those modifier sides further augment and change up not just how the signature main power works but maybe other aspects of your build.Article continues below"You have 24 signature powers, but since each boss has a side B, it's 48 different ways that you can express yourself."For more on Diablo 4, be sure to keep an eye on Daily Star in the coming days as we have plenty more from our chat with the team. For the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletters.
