Wait, there's really "racism stats" in Oblivion?
Jaredus Member Jan 19, 2025 185 I always thought that was just a joke. But it turns out some races are actually disliked, which makes interactions with NPCs way harder. Orcs and Dark Elves get the worst of it, and to a lesser extent, High Elves and Redguards too. Meanwhile, Imperials, Bretons, and Nords don't seem to have any issues. What do you think about that mechanic? I feel like I've never seen anything quite like it in another game. If TES VI were to bring it back and take it even further, how would you feel about that?  Kiyamet Member Apr 21, 2024 3,384 It was pretty obvious if youve interracted with NPCs with multiple characters.   Figgy Member Nov 1, 2024 1,535 It's the most realistic thing about the game. They have their prejudices towards each other and hold grudges over past transgressions.   platypotamus Member Oct 25, 2017 9,817 Honestly surprised the Argonians and Khajitt don't get it worse than they do.   OP OP Jaredus Member Jan 19, 2025 185 Kiyamet said: It was pretty obvious if youve interracted with NPCs with multiple characters. Click to expand... Click to shrink... Yes. I've always played Imperial or Nord, but in the remaster, I decided to go with an Orc. And that's what tipped me off, something felt off from the very beginning, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. Then I got to this quest where I had to ask various NPCs in town for information. And almost no one would even talk to me, even for a rumor. I had to rely on bribery or persuasion just to get a word out of them. But since I didn't have any gold, it ended up being an Orc NPC who finally gave me the info I needed. I can't tell if it's messed up or brilliant.  Turnabout Sisters The Fallen Oct 25, 2017 2,646 Hm, I played an Argonian in the original and I could have sworn people made a lot of derogatory comments. Maybe the lines are in there but it doesn't affect disposition. Or I'm misremembering   JSRF FFMPEG Master Member Aug 23, 2023 3,289 Yeah I played my first character as a dark elf and it was pretty clear that a lot people were racist against me   MrTharne Member May 26, 2023 626 Damn Orcs are the least racist. Orcs stay winning.   LayZboy Member Dec 17, 2024 421 They should make it more extreme.   DanteSparda504 Member Nov 2, 2017 4,815 Birmingham, AL It's one of the more realistic things in the game, and I low key love it. It'd be weird having a world with different races where there were not some discrimination going on.   jonjonaug Member Oct 25, 2017 6,178 Morrowind kind of had this too where being the same race would give you a disposition boost, although I don't think there were negative modifiers.   Ant_17 Member Oct 28, 2017 2,828 Greece This is great mechanic. I love when my Drow character in BG3 is just seen as evil and i deliver on their stereo type.   Niosai One Winged Slayer Member Oct 28, 2017 5,202 I've been playing every numbered Elder Scrolls game lately and while I historically have gone for Nords in these games, I decided to shake it up and use Dark Elf. I quickly learned that basically every game is consistent in how much the NPCs dislike the Dark Elves... The NPCs in Arena outright will refuse to talk to you at times.  Z-Brownie Member Nov 6, 2017 4,314 This was pretty great at the time, i wish more games had this kind of system.   MF DOOMbot Member Jun 5, 2023 3,915 Considering that this is how people work in real life I'm not surprised. I feel like you can tell when people have experienced racism and prejudice daily, however subtle, and those that do not.
