The Architectural Review is looking for a sub-editor

The AR is currently looking for an exceptional candidate to join its small editorial team as sub-editor.
This freelance position, with a minimum of 45 hours a month during the two weeks of the AR’s monthly production cycle, would suit a sub-editor who has experience in architectural publications or in a related field, and is proficient in InDesign.
This candidate should have an eye for meticulous detail and consistency, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and strong organisational skills. The candidate should be able to sub and edit copy to be clear, accurate and accessible, rigorously interrogating and fact-checking text but also recognising when to exercise restraint. Candidates should have extensive experience working to a style guide and be attuned to current conversations regarding up-to-date use of language.
The position includes:
Sub-editing and proofreading all text for the print publication
Fact-checking all text to ensure published content is correct and accurate
Liaising with writers regarding queries
Sub-editing additional text on the website
Sub-editing and proofreading text for occasional monographs, commercial content and awards catalogues
Assisting with writing captivating headlines, standfirsts and captions for the print publication
Working efficiently and independently to meet tight monthly production deadlines
Liaising with the editorial team to ensure efficient running of the production cycle
Attending morning team meetings during production
The AR has adopted a hybrid working model and the successful candidate will ideally be based in London or nearby and able to come into the offices in Blackfriars. The successful candidate will be expected to provide their own laptop and other equipment.
Hourly rate: from £23, depending on experience.
