I played in the last test and thought it was fucking awesome. I hate Tarkov but Arc Raiders was very fun.

still can't believe they think a third person extraction shooter is a good idea
the corner peaking was INSANE in the previous test
edit: huh according to Steam I am just in this test already. interesting to try it out again at least

I somehow didn't realize that there had been a first tech test. Any detailed impressions from it?

They've been rather secretive since the change to extraction, barely any footage available from the previous test, very sparse impressions. With Marathon looming maybe they'll start amping up visibility.

Amusing to mash this right up against Marathon. I participated in previous tests, this game is definitely on my radar as well. Marathon has a slight edge simply due to me preferring first person games over 3rd person but Arc Raiders has insane potential.
I'd say as far as upcoming extraction games are concerned, Arc Raiders and Marathon are the ones to keep an eye on for sure.

I am not a extraction shooter guy, but I am a big fan of The Finals and Embark so I gave it a shot in the first tech test and probably will try this one out.
It seemed alright but fighting the PVE enemies seemed so brutal. They are hard to hit and take so much ammo that I felt like a sitting duck. I would basically load in, scavenge for a bit and then leave just trying to build up an inventory.
I did manage to get some kills including a 1v2 which was exciting, but I imagine as people learn the game I will get completely stomped.

Just a heads up, if you were in the last Steam tech test, you're automatically in this one, so no need to sign up (you won't be notified, though).

Really tried to get into it during the first one, but found myself not really enjoying it. I'm willing to give it another shot and see if anything has changed.

wonder if they try to rush this out the door before Marathon drops (they might be on schedule for that anyway but idk)

it would be smart for them to undercut Marathon with an earlier release. This tech teat might be a sign that they're close.

Didn't this game used to have like a retro-futuristic look to it? This just looks like PUBG which is very much not what I expected.

The initial trailer (Back when it was PvE only) was sick. Cassette-Reto-futurism, Robyn's 'Dancing on My Own' going in the background, cool narration. It had it all.

The game still has retro futurism vibe. I played the last test. The vibe is strong.

Look hasn't changed since the reveal really, only the type of game (going from pve only to extraction pve and pvp)

This looks incredible. That's some of the best sound design I've ever heard in a game. On my air pod pros it sounds ridiculous. Graphically it's beautiful.
I can't believe Embark is banging this level of quality out so fast.

The last tech test already had so much polish, and was in a better state than some games that are out or in early access.
I confirm that the sound design is remarkable.
The world and lore are cool.
The maps are extremely well designed, maybe not on Tarkov level but still on the upper echelon.
And it looks amazing.
On the bad side, the AI were very brutal especially at the start, but I think it can get better with progression and better guns.
The way the extracts work could be problematic and frustrating with some camping and grifting.
The gunplay is mid. Not enough oomph, weight and feedback.
I'm convinced this would be better as FPS, but it's cool to have a good extraction shooter in 3rd person too. Especially with Marathon on its way.
TLDR: Can't wait for the tech test, especially with real controller support.
Embark is a good addition to this industry.

Yay consoles. Signed up.
These devs have earned at least a try out of me after The Finals, even if the genre swap has me less interested.

It sounds like a worse version of BC2 sound, this time around its far too tinny.

It's depth. The bullets sound like they're far away and reverbed out. Also the game is in third person not from the point of view that the gun is right in front of your face like a FPS. It's not tinny at all.

Except its happening with guns right in front of you. Its understandable for the far away stuff. BC2 had the same shit but not the issue when you fire your own gun or someone next to you does.

How is a pistol supposed to sound in a game universe where everything is scrapped together like this? It's not going to be BC2 or whatever. It's scrappy and almost "jank" sounding which makes it more dope. It's intentional.
Edit: Also the sound design is EVERYTHING in the game not just the sound of the guns (which I think sound perfect). The sound of the arc machines, the footstep noises the sound of jumping on top of a crate, etc...Arc Raiders sounds really good,

Probably the most underrated devs out there imo. And I think their day is 100% coming after The Finals and now this. Both stellar games -- The Finals was completely overlooked.

Nah, The Finals is amazing and it's doing exactly how an amazing shooter that is so competetive can be doing I think. It's not Battlefield, Fortnite or Call of Duty, it's not as accessible to more casual audience. So the fact that it has 12k people playing right now (2 PM CET) just on Steam, is a really good thing.

The Finals is fantastic - but I've realized most people can't get past sensory overload and The Finals with the destructible environments really gets crazy with finding your way in a team fight. You have to be very aware of your surroundings and then watch for everyone's abilities in addition to that. So I think it's like sensory overload for alot of casual FPS fans. Same thing happened in Titanfall 1 which is my favorite game. It's sensory overload....in the best way possible.

Not trying to stir the pot negatively here, just trying to get up to speed. I vaguely remember Embark got some heat back after Finals came out about their AI usage. I know that's obviously a hot topic in creative industries like this. What ever came of that? The reason I ask is that voiceover in the gameplay trailer, and the character voices, just sounds off to me. I'm very interested in the game, and signed up for TT2, but I'm just trying to fully understand their position on this.

Man.. Marathon and Arc Raiders are really going head-to-head this year, even from the alpha/beta tests. It would be interesting to see who'd prevail in the end.

Before the gameplay videos surfaced of Marathon I would've said Marathon would take it easily. But after seeing both gameplay previews -- there's no question in my mind which looks like a better extraction shooter. Arc Raiders just looks like such an immersive vibe, imo.

Randomly found this gameplay video - I will never understand how this game isn't being hyped to hell and back with this kind of gameplay footage.....It looks like Helldivers meets extraction shooter. I really think if they nail this it could be a huge thing. Gameplay starts around 3 minutes.

That video is over a year old, featuring footage of the game before the pivot to extraction shooter.
It was a PvE helldiver's like, that's why they look similar. The gameplay loop today is nothing like that.
