Why should you attend SIGGRAPH? Well, my top reason for attending is community. SIGGRAPH is one of those places that sees so many industry people descend into one place. It’s perfect for catching up with old friends, meeting new people and discovering new things in VFX, animation and computer graphics. But I would definitely look out for the Production Sessions for in-depth coverage of big VFX, anim and games projects. This year, too, the Computer Animation Festival is doing something a bit different. There will, of course, still be great films showcased in the Electronic Theater and Animation Theater sessions, but stay tuned for announcements about other brand new parts of the CAF. Then there’s Real-Time Live! (not to be missed). And, the secret of weapon of SIGGRAPH may well be the Talks, a chance to go deep on individual aspects of films and shows. Amongst many other aspects of SIGGRAPH, another must-do thing is to walk to Exhibition floor. Companies will be presenting on tools and services, and it’s often here that you’ll learn about new software not yet released.
