It’s been a really long wait. The first GTA 6 trailer came out around 18 months ago, all the way back in December 2023. But after months of speculation, Rockstar Games has finally dropped the second official trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI, and although it’s not particularly long, it still shows us glimpses as to what should one expect from the open world behemoth. Packed with cinematic flair, and tantalizing glimpses of the sprawling open world, GTA 6 seems like it will raise the bar once again for emergent open world experience. From new characters and insane graphics to deeper details at the game’s narrative and world structure, there’s a lot to unpack. Whether you’re a hardcore fan or a casual observer, here are the most important things you need to know. And yes, they are all brand new, so let’s get started. The Setting GTA 6 takes place in Leonida, Rockstar’s fictional reimagining of Florida: sun-drenched, chaotic, and deeply corrupt. At the center of the story are Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, two outlaws who’ve always known the system is rigged and the odds are against them. But when an easy score takes a wrong turn, they find themselves caught in the heart of a sprawling criminal conspiracy that stretches across the game’s open world. From dense swamplands to bustling urban centers, Leonida is more than just a backdrop, it’s a living, breathing pressure cooker where survival depends on trust, desperation, and sheer will. We will talk more about the game’s various locations but first, let’s talk about what we learn about the characters. Jason Duval Jason Duval is a man chasing simplicity in a world that keeps dragging him deeper into chaos. Raised among grifters and small-time hustlers, Jason’s early years were steeped in street survival. A brief escape came in the form of a stint with the Army, but even that couldn’t fully erase the scars of his past. Eventually, he resurfaced in the Keys, falling back into old habits, this time running jobs for local criminals. He obviously meets Lucia which may or may not be the right decision which the final game will answer. But for now, let’s talk about… Lucia Caminos Lucia learned to fight before she could read, thanks to a tough upbringing and a father who believed survival was a skill you teach early. She’s spent years protecting her family, a path that eventually landed her in Leonida Penitentiary. Lucia isn’t chasing pipe dreams, she’s focused, deliberate, and done playing by anyone else’s rules. Her mother always talked about building a better life since their time in Liberty City. Cal Hampton Cal Hampton lives life in the shallow end and is friend of Jason’s and an associate of a man named Brian, Cal spends most of his time holed up at home, eavesdropping on Coast Guard chatter, and browsing the internet. He’s a guy who wonders what if every conspiracy theory was right?—not because he believes it all, but because it’s more fun than facing the real world. He’s not chasing power or money. Cal’s just trying to stay off the radar. But Jason’s ambitions may soon pull him out of his comfort zone. Dre’Quan Priest Dre’Quan Priest has always seen the hustle as a means to an end and that end was music. He came up dealing on the streets, not out of ambition for the lifestyle, but because it paid the bills while he chased studio time. Now that he has signed Real Dimez—under his wing, Dre’Quan’s looking to move beyond small gigs. The streets got him this far, but Dre’Quan’s hoping talent takes him the rest of the way. Real Dimez Bae-Luxe and Roxy, better known as Real Dimez, aren’t your average rap duo. Childhood friends turned viral sensations, the two used their street smarts and sharp tongues to build a following. Their breakout single with rapper DWNPLY put them on the map, but fame doesn’t come easy—or clean. After chaotic years, they’ve signed with Dre’Quan Priest’s Only Raw Records, hoping for a second shot at stardom. They’ve got the the hype, now it’s just a matter of hitting again. Raul Bautista Raul Bautista is an old-school bank robber with a sharp mind and he’s been in the game long enough to know what works and who’s worth bringing along. With a mix of charm, confidence, and a sense for opportunity, Raul’s always scouting for the kind of talent willing to risk it all for a big payday. His growing taste for high-stakes jobs keeps pushing the limits, and his crew knows the margin for error is shrinking. Brian Heder Brian Heder looks like your cool guy —relaxed and weathered. But beneath the flip-flops and sunset Brian is a seasoned criminal who came up during the golden era in the Keys. These days, Brian runs his operation from a boat yard alongside his = wife, Lori, letting younger guys like Jason handle the rougher work. Jason gets a rent-free spot on one of Brian’s properties, but it comes with strings: run a few errands and shake down a few locals. And that’s all about the characters. Now, as promised, let’s jump to what we know about the world. Vice City Details Vice City may have left the ’80s behind, but its reputation for an emergent open world is alive and well. It remains the criminal heart of Leonida. Every neighborhood brings its own flavor: there are hotels, community grit; and backroom deals; and over at the VC Port, cruise ships roll in and out, masking the under-the-table business that fuels the city’s underworld. It’s Vice City we know —louder, flashier, and more unfiltered than ever. Leonida Keys Just off the mainland, the Leonida Keys offer a laid-back slice of tropical life. But beneath the calm, the Keys are a crossroads for all kinds of shady dealings. From crime routes to backdoor exchanges, these waters may look calm, but they’re some of the most dangerous in the country. Grassrivers Sprawling, murky, and unpredictable, the Grassrivers are the wild heart of Leonida. It’s a place where nature doesn’t just reclaim the land, it dominates it. The gators are just the beginning. From dense locales to open grasslands, the region is crawling with secrets, threats, and things that probably shouldn’t be disturbed. Locals know better than to wander too deep, but for those chasing fast cash, escape routes, or hidden stashes, the Wetlands are both a hiding spot and a hazard. Port Gellhorn Once a bustling beachside getaway, Port Gellhorn is now a faded postcard from a better time. The rollercoasters are rusting, the hotels are half-empty, and the neon signs flicker more than they shine. But beneath the decay, criminal economy thrives, in typica GTA fashion. Ambrosia In Ambrosia, tradition and industry go hand in hand, at least on the surface. Home to the Allied Crystal sugar refinery and while the refinery keeps the lights on, it’s the local biker gang that really keeps things moving. It’s most likely a place where the line between civic sense and criminal enterprise is paper-thin. Mount Kalaga National Park Tucked up against Leonida’s northern border, Mount Kalaga National Park offers a rare kind of quiet: thick forests, winding trails, and enough open space to vanish completely. It’s prime land for hunting, fishing, and off-roading, and probably secrets. It seems like most of the fun activities in Grand Theft Auto 6 will take place here. Grand Theft Auto 6 is out on the PS5 and Xbox Series X | S in May of 2026. And yes, it will probably get delayed again.
