Arrowhead Game Studios has announced its next major update with the Masters of Ceremony Warbond, adding brand new weapons, armour, stratagems and more coming to the popular multiplayer game.
While Arrowhead confirmed a tonne of new additions to the game, the team unfortunately forgot to reveal the biggest feature of the upcoming update. Arriving on May 15, 2025, the update’s brand-new booster, the Sample Scanner, has an awesome new effect.
Helldivers 2 sample scanner purpose revealed
In the Helldivers 2 Discord, an Arrowhead developer revealed the actual purpose of the Sample Scanner. Alongside helping players locate samples, the new booster also gives players a “15% chance to receive twice the samples on sample pick up”.
This means that players looking to upgrade their Super Destroyer quickly will be able to earn more samples per mission run. However, in order to get the doubled samples, you will have to actually find, pick up and extract with those samples first.
For long-time players, the sample scanner isn’t really that useful, at least until more Super Destroyer upgrades are available. However, for newcomers and players that can’t spend all their free time hunting down samples, it’s a pretty damn good booster—especially if you’re leading a team of friends.
With Arrowhead ramping up production on major updates and planning to upgrade the game so much it eventually becomes its own sequel, there will undoubtedly be a lot of Super Destroyer upgrades to unlock. With this in mind, the Sample Scanner upgrade will be very useful in the long run… unless you’re one of those players that are over level 120 with maxed out sample counts.
