While some have criticised the unreleased titles for looking similar visually to original Switch games, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has said that making the games for the older handheld would be simply impossible.  With Mario Kart World featuring a massive open world with dense traffic in a number of zones and Donkey Kong Bananza being a physics-filled playground, both of these games would bring the OG Switch to its knees. However, there are still doubters.  Nintendo president pushes back Switch 2 doubters  In a recent earnings call, the same one where Nintendo revealed its record-breaking predictions for Switch 2 launch sales, Furukawa pushed back against investors doubting the hardware of its new handheld.  “[The] hardware processing performance [of Nintendo Switch 2] has become necessary for software developers to realize one of Nintendo’s most important goals: proposing new ways to play,” the president said in a translated comment.  Furukawa explained that the new handheld may not “seem like much of a change on the outside” but “in reality both the hardware and peripherals have been developed from scratch.” While the Switch 2 hardware had been met with a number of detractors since its reveal, especially with the reveal of Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza, Furukawa explains that both of those games “could not be realized” with the power of the original handheld.  The Nintendo Switch 2 has proven itself to be a major upgrade already with games like Hogwarts Legacy gaining previously next-gen only features on the new machine. Additionally, games like Cyberpunk 2077 are now possible on the system alongside real-time ray-tracing and DLSS.  There are still major limitations to the console. After all, it is a very slim handheld, and games like the upcoming Star Wars Outlaws port look quite rough in their current state.
