Quincy Jones' EPIC Mansion is On Sale For Nearly $60 Million
As the producer and composer behind some of the biggest songs like "Beat It" and "Billie Jean"—not to mention the recipient of a whopping 28 Grammy Awards—Quincy Jones was nothing short of a musical legend. So, is it really a surprise that his real-estate portfolio was equally legendary? Six months after Jones passed away, his Bel Air home has officially be put on the market for a whopping $59.99 million. We've seen a lot of celebrity properties go on the market—sometimes, they stay unsold for years–but this home's nearly $60 million price tag is by no means cheap. But while this listing elicits lots of sticker shock, it uniquely captures Jones' architectural point of view.Anthony Barcelo"There are homes built for spec, and others that seem to trade hands often—but then there are homes like this, which almost never come to market," explains David Kramer, who is listing the site through his eponymous group at Compass. "Add to that the legacy of Quincy Jones, and it becomes not just a unique architectural offering, but a piece of cultural history.” Completed in the early aughts, the residence was built to bring a resort sensibility to California. In fact, Jones was reportedly inspired by a hotel in South Africa called the Palace of the Lost City—and tapped architect Gerald “Jerry” Allison to turn his vision into a real-estate reality. (Fun fact: Jones and Allison were exactly friends from high school, giving this passion project a personal touch.)Anthony BarceloClocking in at just under 25,000 square feet, this estate is anchored by a circular central wing that houses a spacious living room, wine cellar with tasting room, indoor garden area, as well as a game lounge and cabana that opens up to a resort-style pool. The east wing comprises the primary suite—which has multiple walk-in closets, a private balcony, and a dedicated exercise room—while the west wing has three additional suites. Oh, and did we mention the home also features an office with a reception area, screening room, and gallery? While this residence is by no means cheap, the Jones family hopes that the new owner loves the home as much as the late composer did. "Our family has a lifetime worth of wonderful memories and meaning imbued in this home," daughter Rashida Jones told the Wall Street Journal.
