Designed by Allies and Morrison, the 7,940m2 building is intended to consolidate the school’s research, teaching and public engagement activities in one location. Paul Eaton, partner at Allies and Morrison, said: “The completion of the School of Public Health is an important milestone in both the development of the university’s White City Campus presence and also Allies and Morrison’s longstanding relationship with Imperial on this site.” The building is arranged with teaching space on the first and second floors and 3,230m2 of office, research and engagement space between the third and seventh floors. The design seeks to promote interaction between students, researchers and staff through a variety of shared spaces. These include staff and student social areas on each floor, a large daylit stair intended to support wayfinding and active circulation, and a flexible 85m2 community space located at ground level. The building’s external material palette comprises pale terracotta-coloured metal cladding with a sand-textured finish and white pre-cast concrete panels. Internally, exposed in-situ fair-faced concrete and Douglas fir are used in the reception and stair areas. Neil Ferguson, director of the School of Public Health, said: “The new School of Public Health building at the heart of Imperial’s White City Campus marks the realisation of a long-standing vision to create a state-of-the-art home for the School.” The School of Public Health is the second building Allies and Morrison has completed at White City for Imperial, following the Sir Michael Uren Hub in 2019. Planning permission for the next phase of development – providing new teaching, research and commercial facilities focused on data sciences, AI and innovation – was granted in 2021. >> Also read: Jestico + Whiles completes Ray Dolby Centre for University of Cambridge >> Also read: Fletcher Priest completes TikTok City office Project team: Client: Imperial College Architect: Allies and Morrison Structure: Curtins Services, sustainability, lighting: Hoare Lea Facade: Buro Happold Landscape: Gross Max Cost: Arcadis
