Surrey green belt review
The team selected for the estimated £70,000 contract will carry out an assessment of all land within the borough included in the green belt and look at the impact of releasing specific areas of green belt for development. The study will Identify opportunities to enhance the beneficial use of the green belt and will also single our key sites where new infrastructure investment could help to boost walking, cycling and public transport use. According to the brief: ‘The purpose of the Green Belt Review (incorporating a Grey Belt Assessment) is to provide a robust, up-to-date assessment of the function and status of Green Belt within Surrey Heath.Advertisement ‘This study should take account of recent changes to national planning policy and guidance relating to the Green Belt, including the introduction of the grey belt definition. The purpose of the accompanying Sustainability Study is to determine the ease of access to daily facilities for existing and future residents, by active modes and public transport. ‘This assessment is a significant aspect of the project and should be of sufficient detail to enable the Council to make informed decisions when allocating housing sites through the Local Plan Review, including where considering whether land is suitable for release from the Green Belt.’ Surrey Heath is a large 9,507ha local authority area located on the fringes of London which is largely suburban in its western half and more rural in its eastern half. Since 2012 the borough has been focussing on sustainably developing its western half and earlier this year won funding for a green belt review. Bids for the latest commission will be evaluated 70 per cent on quality and 30 per cent on price.  Applicants must hold employer’s liability insurance of £5 million, public liability insurance of £5 million and professional indemnity insurance of £1 million.
