Microsoft Increased the Xbox Series S Price but Amazon Brought It Back Down Even Lower Than Before

Earlier this month, Microsoft announced price increases for all SKUs of its Xbox consoles along with some accessories and many of its games.
This is in combination a result of “market conditions and the rising costs of tariffs.” The announcement came following the new tariffs introduced on global goods in the United States.
Among the price increases is the Xbox Series S which is positioned against the Series X as the more affordable option for casual console players.
It’s price has gone up from $300 where it launched to now $380—an $80 increase.
Despite this, Amazon now has it listed at a 24% discount from its new price.
So right now and for a limited time, you can get the console for just $289.
That’s a $91 discount from the new MSRP and an $11 discount from where the console was listed at everywhere before May.

Better on Console
Microsoft semi-recently launched a marketing campaign of posters of laptops and TVs and phones, labeling them, “This is an Xbox.” The company is shifting toward a focus on its Game Pass subscription and cloud streaming services.
Samsung TVs now come with a Gaming Hub feature that allows you to access Xbox games from the cloud, no console required.
However, in my opinion the internet speeds just aren’t there yet.
For graphics intensive games or FPSs that require quick reaction times, you’ll notice frame drops, resolution hiccups, and even a big of lag.
And if you’re not in a major coastal city like New York or LA, that lag will be even worse.
As of now, nothing beats running the game locally on a PC or a console to get the optimal experience.
The Xbox is capable of up to 120 frames per second and has 10 GB of RAM.
The Xbox Series S serves as the more affordable entry point in the Xbox ecosystem, compared to the more robust Xbox Series X.
The console also comes with a single wireless controller.

The real magic of the Xbox nowadays is in its Game Pass offering.
With Game Pass, you’ll be able to access a hundreds of awesome games in an ever-changing catalogue, much like you would for TV shows and movies with Netflix.
This is an excellent way to experiment and get to play a bunch of games you may not have ordinarily spent money on and discover new hidden gems for yourself.
You’ll also get day one access to any first party titles from Xbox, Bethesda, and Activision such as the Doom: The Dark Ages which releases this week.
Go ahead and save yourself either $91 or $11 on a new Xbox Series S console, depending how you look at it.
