A renowned insider claims that Sony is set to announce substantial discounts to the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro price cuts as part of an annual Days of Play event. Coming just after substantial price hikes to the console following the introduction of Trump Administration tariffs, the company is offering the first official price cut to the PS5 Pro.
Claimed by trusted leaker Billbil-Kun, known for their accurate leaks of PlayStation products and promotions, Sony is set to announce the price cuts on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. The company is also said to be reducing the price of peripherals and hardware bundles.
Sony set to announce PS5 discounts
According to the insider, the PS5 Pro will have a price cut of €100 across Europe with the PS5 Pro seeing a smaller discount of €50. This comes after the April price increases of consoles in Europe that increased the price of the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition by €50.
The leaker also claims that Sony will introduce a new series of Black Ops 6 bundles that come with a console and a digital download code for the latest CoD game. The Digital Bundle is said to cost €449.99 with a standard console version priced at €499.99.
Additionally, the insider revealed that Sony is also slashing the price of the PSVR2 peripheral by €50, bringing its price down to €399,99. Finally, the price of a standard DualSense controller will be decreased to just €55.
PlayStation’s recent price hikes for its entire catalogue of hardware was blamed on troubles relating to the global market. Nevertheless, the company is offering a number of discounts for its hardware to tie into its annual marketing push.
Sony isn’t the only company to raise the price of its console hardware either. Just recently, Xbox also announced numerous price increases for the Xbox Series X and Series S consoles.
For the time being, Nintendo is the only console manufacturer to not increase the price of its hardware with the Nintendo Switch. The Nintendo Switch 2 has also stayed at its announced price of even after the delay in pre-orders due to the aforementioned Trump tariffs. However, the price of accessories for the console has spiked in price.
