Friday, October 24th, 2025Posted by Jim ThackerFoundry releases Flix 8.0html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/loose.dtd"Foundry has released Flix 8.0, the latest version of its heavyweight story development software for animation and visual effects production.The update adds a new Storyboard Pro extension, making it possible to send individual storyboard panels back and forth between Flix and Toon Booms storyboarding software.A new Shots UI streamlines the process of roundtripping between Flix and Storyboard Pro or editorial.A collaborative hub for story developmentOriginally developed in-house at Sony Pictures Imageworks, Flix is intended to enable directors, producers and editors to work collaboratively with artists during story development.The platform provides a central repository for storyboard images scanned in or created in other software primarily Photoshop and Storyboard Pro complete with version management.Flix processes and packages those images, converting them to the size and aspect ratio required for the production, and exporting them as automatically generated storyboards.For generating animatics, Flix supports roundtripping with Media Composer and Premiere Pro, plus native tools for timing an image sequence to an audio track or recording voiceovers.The previous release, Flix 7.0, also restored Flixs integration with Maya, bridging the gap between 2D storyboarding and 3D shot layout.The software is split into two separate applications, central server-side hub Flix Server, plus a local client application, Flix Client, used by the artists themselves.Flix 8.0: new Storyboard Pro extension and workflow improvementsNew features in Flix 8.0 include a dedicated Storyboard Pro extension.It makes it possible to send individual storyboard panels back and forth between the two applications, streamlining workflow.In addition, a new Shots UI streamlines the process of roundtripping with Storyboard Pro or editorial tools. Other workflow changes include a new Sequence Ingest UI, showing the progress of the file ingest process in real time, and major improvements to drag-and-drop workflows.Price and system requirementsFlix 8.0 Server is compatible with Rocky Linux 9. Flix 7.1 Client is compatible with Windows 11 and macOS 15.0.
