Despite being one of the most powerful weapons in-universe, the remotely-detonated bomb is disappointingly weak. With balance patches still on the way to make players feel more powerful, the Melta Bomb should be reworked to make it more in line with the devastating effects of its book counterpart. But will this happen?Buff the Meta BombIn Warhammer 40K books, the Melta Bomb is an extremely powerful explosive device. In Space Marine 2, the manually detonated bomb does result in a decently sized explosion, but the damage falloff is tiny.In-universe, the effect of the Melta Bomb is huge, unleashing a wave of thermal energy that doesnt only kill foes, but literally melts them away. Hence the name. While developer Saber Interactive does need to stick to the look and feel of the Warhammer tabletop game, the team has taken liberties. For example, the pretty useless Neo-Volkite Pistol from the board game is coming to Space Marine 2, and it looks immensely more useful than its tabletop counterpart. How to make the boom biggerAt the time of writing, the Melta Bomb needs to be manually set and exploded manually, a feature that definitely needs to stay in a buffed version of the weapon. However, the explosion currently doesnt feel very satisfying, unless it blows up in the middle of a horde of Tyranids. To buff the powerful weapon, Saber should make the explosion wider, adding a bigger area of effect with more damage falloff. The time of explosion could also be made longer, making the build up for the bombs explosion even greater. This could make the Melta Bomb feel more satisfying. After all, most of a weapons perceived effectiveness is actually how sound and visuals trick players into making a weapon feel effective. With years of content planned for the game, Space Marine 2 developer Saber Interactive has plenty of time to make changes to existing weapons, especially as they add more. With new Tyranid and Chaos forces planned alongside new weapons, operations and more, theres tonnes of time for balance shifts.Subscribe to our newsletters!By subscribing, you agree to our Privacy Policy and may receive occasional deal communications; you can unsubscribe anytime.Share
