Russian officials are investigating the upcoming release to see whether or not the title features extremism or anti-Russian sentiment.Stalker 2 faces Russian banReported by RIA Novosti, a Russian state-owned news outlet, State Duma Deputy Anton Gorelki revealed that the game is facing possible bans depending on its content. If the title is found to hold any content that is seen as anti-Russian, it will be swiftly banned in the country.Furthermore, gamers who are found to play or purchase the game via the use of a VPN or other means will be punished by the Russian government if the game does get banned.Via VGC, gamers found playing the banned game, if it does receive a ban, will be treated as if they are supporting a hostile force. The Russian government also claims that supporting an anti-Russian video game may even be classed as an act of terrorism. This activity could result in a fine, prison sentence or some other form of punishment.At the time of writing, the game is being investigated by Russian officials for content that justifies terrorism, extremist rhetoric and anti-Russian speech.Developed by Ukranian developer GSC Game World, many of the games developers have stayed in the war-torn region as Russia continues to decimate the country while others moved to new offices in the Czech Republic. A Making Of documentary by Microsoft revealed the terrible conditions the studio has faced while making the game.Stalker 2 is set to release on Xbox Series consoles and PC on November 20, 2024. The game also launches in Xbox Game Pass on Day One.
