NVIDIA finally unveils 50-series GPUs as next-gen models will cost you
NVIDIA has finally revealed its 50-series GPUs and a whole host of impressive tech, but as expected, you can expect to pay plenty for them to take your PC gaming rig to the next levelTech13:50, 07 Jan 2025NVIDIA's 50-series is finally here(Image: NVIDIA)NVIDIA is one of the biggest tech companies around thanks to its strides in AI, but judging by recent Steam Hardware Survey results, it continues to dominate the GPU space and things are only about to get better. The brand's next lineup of GPUs, the 50-series, was revealed last night (January 7) at CES and while they don't come cheap, they certainly look to be impressive upgrades with what NVIDIA dubs "game changer" performance. From the smaller 5090 Founders Edition to the incredible performance jump from the 4090, here's all we know so far as the high-end cards target a January 30 release while the 5070 versions arrive next month. The new lineup, including US pricing, is as follows, with all drives having DisplayPort 2.1b connectors for up to 8K support and 165Hz refresh rate:RTX 5090: 1,939RTX 5080: 979RTX 5070 Ti: 729RTX 5070: 539As you can see, that's a steep jump from the 5080 to the 5090, but NVIDIA's CES showcase revealed how much more powerful it is and how small it is, too.The RTX 5090 Founders Edition is a two-slot GPU that's ideal for smaller PC builds and much more manageable than the 4090 was. It comes with 32GB of GDDR7 paired with over 21,000 CUDA cores. The end result is, according to NVIDIA, a GPU that's twice as fast as the RTX 4090 which previously ruled the roost. It does require more power, though, with 575 watts required at the top end.One demo in the keynote showcased staggering performance gains across multiple titles. Cyberpunk 2077, with full ray-tracing, was running at 234 frames-per-second, while the 4090 ran it at a still high 109.Come and join The Daily Star on Bluesky, the social media site set up by ex-Twitter boss Jack Dorsey. Let's M.S.M.F.A (Make Social Media Fun Again)Players can expect to see more than double performance from Alan Wake 2 and Black Myth Wukong, according to NVIDIA's benchmarks, too.The RTX 5070 Ti will see a similar jump from the RTX 4070 Ti of around twice the speed, which is particularly annoying as that's what I run in my PC. Time to check eBay prices, I think, especially since NVIDIA claims it'll deliver 4090 performance at a lower price point.Want a more manageable way to try PC gaming?
