The Pop Lamp From Mud Australia Is Tiny but Mighty
Beauty and simplicity frequently go hand in hand, inspiring us to see more in less. The LED Pop Lamp from Mud Australia does just that, offering a rechargeable task light just as sweet as it is small. Cordless and endlessly portable, the body of the lamp is crafted from a singular piece of porcelain, expertly hiding interior dimming switches and retaining a beautiful, hand wrought finish. The Pop Lamp comes in 6 modern colors Blossom, Duck Egg, Dust, Orange, Red, and Slate each imbuing the lamp with a different feeling depending on where it happens to be placed. Shelley Simpson, founder of Mud Australia, had been thinking about a porcelain lighting line for a while, then met designer Zachary Hanna at an event in 2018. Unable to shake the idea, she reached out in 2021 to see how they could collaborate on a line for Mud. Both share a deep respect for each others respective crafts, yet are also committed to pushing the boundaries of whats possible. The resulting collection couldnt have come together better, and its an exciting point in Muds development to be able to move into a whole new design category. Zacs design empathy for porcelain production, and his fresh perspective, has enabled us to achieve a seamless embodiment of Muds design aesthetic and contemporary lighting, says Simpson. This collection is so very much about collaboration between Hanna and Simpson, a quality integral to the design process at Mud. The integration of lighting within a porcelain vessel presents unique design challenges that must be intimately understood to provide a beautiful and functional product. For Hanna, it was meticulously researching Muds design language, then taking these forms into CAD to refine and edit ideas. For Simpson, her extensive expertise in porcelain production and sense of structure minimized pain points within the design process, adding context within material science. After much trial and error, they arrived at the finished prototype. It was a moment of realization, Simpson recalls. Zacs vision had not only captured Muds aesthetic in lighting, but it had created something truly special. It wasnt just a lamp; it embodied everything we had hoped to achieve. It was incredibly rewarding to see it take shape. The Pop Lamp and the Flared Table Lamp are set to receive a fresh set of new colorways in 2025. This, as well as an exciting third product launch, the Flared Standing Lamp, is yet another reason to keep an eye on Mud Australia in the next coming years.RedSlateOrangeDustDuck EggBlossomShelley Simpson and Zachary HannaTo learn more about the Pop Lamp from Mud Australia, visit mudaustralia.com.
