We're working hard to complete our next short film, and part of that work includes doing lots of tests! Here's a test of our lighting system for integrating 3D objects from Blender into our footage. This system takes advantage of IBL (image based lighting) for the indirect environment lighting, and a simple Sun Lamp to provide a directional light source. Our DIY Light Probe is created by bracketing our camera to capture three exposures (-2EV, 0EV and +2EV) while we shoot a panorama. We used Autopano to stitch the images together, and then brought each finished bracketed panorama into Photomatix to assemble the final HDRI map. We exported this as a .EXR file before finally bringing it into Blender and setting up our scene.
