Disneys totally-not-a-princess protagonist Moana (Aulii Cravalho) (who is also canonically a princess) returns in Moana 2, now available for digital rental or purchase. Shes joined by demigod Maui (Dwayne Johnson), Heihei the chicken (Alan Tudyk), Pua the pig, and the ferocious, tiny coconut warriors known as the Kakamora. In Moana, the Kakamora are just one of the threats Maui and Moana encounter on their journey together; Moana 2 sees them taking on a new and more prominent role.A deleted scene from Moana 2, featured as part of the movies home release, changes the nature of the encounter between Moanas new crew and the pirate coconuts. In this scene, instead of the whole crew getting hit by Kakamora darts, only Moana takes the hit. The rest of them Maui fanboy Moni (Huallai Chung), quirky inventor Loto (Rose Matafeo), and elderly farmer Kele (David Fane) are captured and squeezed together in rope netting suspended above the ship. (Pua gets his own cage.) Moana insists she can still help her crew, but given that shes completely limp, her face pressed against the deck and her words slurred, that isnt looking super-likely.The scene is funny, but co-director Jason Hand says ultimately, the filmmakers wanted to spend less time on the Kakamora barge, and streamline the action a little. In the final film, Moanas whole crew gets darted and paralyzed and Pua gets a dart right in the butt.Moana 2 hit theaters in November 2024. Originally, it was supposed to be a Disney Plus series, but much like Disneys sequel Atlantis: Milos Return, it was expanded and repackaged into a full-length movie (albeit with much more polish). Moana takes to the seas again in Moana 2, this time with a whole crew, a bigger, badder villain, and a post-credits hint about an even bigger conflict to come.Moana2is now available for purchase or rental at Amazon Video, Apple TV, Fandango at Home, and other digital platforms, and will be available on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD on March 18. The Disney Plus release date has not yet been announced.
