While HD2 has a lot of exciting prospects, some fans are worried due to the announced departure of Pilestedt. In response to worried fans, the Helldivers 2 CEO has assured players HD2 can still exist for a long time, even in the wake of its one Jesus figure leaving.Helldivers 2 CEO assures fans worried about Pilestedt leavingOn X, Helldivers 2 creative director and Arrowhead CCO, Pilestedt, has announced that he is taking a sabbatical. Not only that, but Pilestedt announced that he will be working on the next Arrowhead game when he comes back.As for why they are taking a break, its because they have been working on the same IP for 11 years. Pilestedt was working on HD in 2013, they started working on HD2 in 2016, and working around the clock for over a decade has resulted in Pilestedt setting aside himself and loved ones.Image credit: @Pilestedt on XThe break is well-deserved, but the announcement has naturally resulted in some Super Earth soldiers being worried about HD2s future. After all, Pilestedt has been the face and voice of Helldivers 2 for many, even after stepping down as Arrowhead CEO.Pilestedt was replaced as CEO in 2024 by Shams Jorjani, and Jorjani has responded to concerned fans on Discord. In response to a fan worried about Pilestedt never working on HD2 again, Shams Jorjani said, The lead for the game is Mikael Eriksson and has been for the last few years Johans role as a senior creative is to support all our projects.Jorjani assured players that Pilestedt will absolutely still be involved in the same way hes been the past year gives input on high level plans, collaborates with designers on some stuff. In response to a query about when support for HD2 will end, Jorjani said, as long as people play, pay and we can build a business case around it well support it to hell and back. If we can keep it going for 10 years we will.As to whether the continued existence of HD2 would jeopardize development for Helldivers 3, Jorjani said, compare Helldivers today to when it launched.
