With groundbreaking projects such as Portlands airport extension and the worlds tallest wooden tower, modern timber architecture is set to transform sustainable construction across the United States. Apple has joined the wooden revolution with its new store, which boasts a predominantly timber-based design.Located downtown, Apple Miami Worldcenter is a key element of a broader development initiative in the area. The store is primarily constructed from locally sourced wood, reinforcing its commitment to environmentally friendly practices. Its sustainability credentials are further validated by its being powered entirely by renewable energy. Apple hasnt mentioned the specific sources of this energy, but the initiative proves its dedication to eco-conscious operations and forward-thinking architectural design.Designer: AppleApples in-house team managed and created the design, which is rare since the tech mogul usually teams up with the renowned UK firm Foster + Partners. However, Apples quintessential design language was maintained, and a sleek, low-rise exterior was adopted as a tribute to Miamis Art Deco architecture. The store feels familiar but with a sustainable twist. The structure has generous glazing. The interior boasts the natural beauty of wood and showcases the minimal and trendy aesthetic we usually witness in Apple stores. Product displays and areas for demonstrations, including the Genius Bar, have been added. The space is also equipped with biomass-based flooring, thereby creating a store that truly adopts an eco-friendly and sustainable ethos. It is Apples first wooden store, showcasing a biophilic design while allowing the natural beauty of timber to shine through.Created from the ground up to reflect Apples values, Apple Miami Worldcenter is built with the environment in mind using a regionally sourced mass timber structure and other low-carbon materials, which significantly reduced the carbon intensity of its construction, said the firm. Like all Apple facilities, Apple Miami Worldcenters operations run on 100 percent renewable energy and are carbon neutral.Apple Miami Worldcenter also features a biophilic design that helps connect customers to the beautiful green spaces surrounding the store. Upon entry, customers and the local community are welcomed by the grounds blooming with plants and flora inspired by the multicultural Latin American influence of Miami, they concluded.Wooden buildings always bring with them, the concern of fire risks. However, mass timber products like cross-laminated timber or CLT which has been used to build the Apple store arent like traditional timber buildings. The cross-laminated timber includes many layers of wood, that have been glued together to create a stronger and more solid base. Research proves that this kind of wood is more resilient to fire than steel, and it will slowly char instead of rapidly burning away. The post Apple Opens Its First Wooden Store In Miami Built Using Cross-Laminated Timber first appeared on Yanko Design.
