PlayStation Network is down for maintenance, meaning players can't log in or play games on their PS4 or PS5 consoles here's all we know about the issue and when it could be resolvedTech09:21, 08 Feb 2025Updated 09:30, 08 Feb 2025PS5 and PS4 gamers are stranded offline at the moment(Image: AFP via Getty Images)If you're a PS Plus subscriber looking to play online on your PlayStation 4 or 5 console this weekend, you'll no doubt have seen a surprising message when logging on last night.A message explaining that PlayStation Network is undergoing maintenance isn't the sort of thing we're used to seeing, but the issue does appear more damaging than at first anticipated. That's because whatever is going on appears to be taking a whole host of Sony services, and it almost happened during a key moment for one of PlayStation's own studios as Bungie's latest Dungeon race for Destiny 2 concluded just before the issues began.Could we soon get PS3 titles played natively on PS5?(Image: NurPhoto via Getty Images)Throughout the night (this writer couldn't get logged on at around 11:30 pm) more of Sony's services have been affected.PlayStation Store (the digital one), and the PlayStation Direct website (the company's physical store) are both seeing issues, and PlayStation Video is down, too. That means fans can't log in and play their games on this Saturday morning, and Sony's own Status Tracker says everything it tracks is having issues. As for what else the company has said, it's simply admitted that "some users might be experiencing issues with PSN" and little else.Content cannot be displayed without consentContent cannot be displayed without consentSony's network was running as normal around around 10:30 pm last night (Friday, February 7) because this writer was able to complete a purchase before settling in to play Destiny. When I snapped a screenshot from the game, I was unable to share it at 11:30 pm, while EA's servers were uncontactable in EA FC 25, too. The above post on X (formerly Twitter) was shared seemingly as the first complaints about PSN were coming in.As frustrating as it is, the outage of 2011 will take some beating. A data breach saw users' payment details leak, with data for over 77 million PSN users exposed. The network was down for 23 days, with Sony attempting to make it up to players with free games. The whole incident reportedly cost Sony more than $170 million in costs during the PlayStation 3 generation. We'll update this page as we hear more about this latest 'maintenance' period, so be sure to check back throughout the day.For more on all things PlayStation, check out how the storefront accidentally leaked the release date for the Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater remake.
