The architect, working with Dublin-based conservation specialist Howley Hayes Cooney, will create an estate-wide masterplan covering the world-famous universitys 200 buildings.According to the practice, its work will pave the way for the universitys future evolution while respecting and enhancing its existing built heritage which ranges from 18th-century courtyards to 20th-century masterpieces such as ABKs iconic 1967 Berkeley Library. The masterplan aims to make the campus more inclusive, engaging better with the city and supporting the universitys 2030 decarbonisation strategy.AdvertisementA spokesperson for the team said: [We] will work across the entire estate to realise this potential, engaging with students and staff and identifying opportunities for Trinity to use its places and spaces more creatively, sustainably and effectively. The search for the estimated 1 million contract began back in 2022.The appointment comes eight years after Trinity chose Perkins+Will to design a 840 million innovation campus on a prominent 2.2haplot overlooking Grand Canal Dock and a short distance from Daniel Libeskinds landmark Bord Gis Energy Theatre.Trinity College sits opposite the former Irish Houses of Parliament. It was founded in 1592 and is the oldest university in the country. It currently has 22,000 students and 3,500 staff.Historic buildings on the universitys main site include the Thomas Burgh-designed 1732 Old Library where the famous Book of Kells is kept.AdvertisementAllies and Morrison has a studio in Dublin and is already working elsewhere in Ireland, including on the Town Centre First programme which is helping to revitalise town centres across the country.
